We are looking into traveling to St. John in September for our honeymoon. We have heard that a villa is the way to go. The Splendore is the recommended villa so far. Any good honeymoon villa's out there?

Also, what about Caneel Bay Resort? Would you recommend this over the villa option?

We are looking for great snorkleing and easy access to where we are staying. We like to have a few drinks and dont want to drive around to much afterwards......

Thanks!

Bill,

Check out Caribbeanvilla.com. Used them two years ago. Are going back this year and will use them again. Great properties. We rented Orchid Villa with our two teenagers and loved it. They have some great 2 bedroom romantic places at $1250-$1800 per week. Never stayed at Caneel but stayed at Sapphire Beach on St Thomas and would never go back to a hotel after having been in a Villa. Enjoy and congratulations!

Caneel Bay is a lovely property and offers wonderful beaches (all seven of 'em) right on the grounds. The beachfront rooms are wonderful on Scott's Beach and Hawksnest Beach would be my second choice. Altho the villa is an option and popular on St. John there is nothing like a special holiday with the amenities that a resort/hotel offers. A villa is an popular option on St. John but the self-catering rather than personal service might be something that you might not want on your honeymoon. Staying in most villas almost require a vehicle rental to get to the beaches, dine out and do other activities and for some of 'em, a 4-wheel drive is mandatory because of the "driveways." Yes, it is wonderful to have your own plunge pool and glorious views but there is a whole lot to be said for walking out your door onto the beach with your coffee in you hand and watching the sun rise as you take a swim and having someone else take care of making the bed, washing the coffee pot and replacing the wet towels daily!
It is a wonderful island which ever option you choose. Since you said September, be sure to invest in a travel/trip interruption insurance policy due to the fact that you are going at the peak of Hurricane Season.
