I am plannig a trip to St John November 7-15 with my husband and three other couples. It is mine and my friends 31st b-day and we are looking for a great place that can accomodate 8 for dinner on Saturday night (14th). I know we probably need to make reservations so I was hoping that you all could give me some ideas. I have been checking out your message board for quite some time now and have gotten some good ideas on what else we are going to do.
Another question I have is that the guys are taking fishing charters for two days so the girls are going to shop one day but we wanted to do some hiking on one of the other days. Any must see trails that we should take?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

If you have not already ordered one, I suggest the book 'St John Off the Beaten Track', available above. It outlines numerous hiking trail options and specific items of interest to be discovered on each one. If there was only one choice for hiking, I would suggest the Reef Bay trail. It starts at Centerline road and travels downhill to Reef Bay. Tremendous views along with the Petroglyphs and old sugar plantation ruins. Swimming in Reef Bay is nice as well.
Unless you are all very fit and enjoy uphill hikes, this trail is best taken with the Parks Department. They bus you out to the start, provide a guide with excellent information along the way and then ferry you back to Cruz Bay from Reef Bay.

I agree with Chris, go to the Parks Dept. dock in Cruz bay and book with them. I hiked up once...ONLY ONCE!!! UGH!!! Haha!

And a dinner res for 8 won't be a problem. After you've had a chance to see the island and get a little acclimated, then you can choose the dinner spot for the 14th. As long as you give them a couple hours notice, you'll be able to get in anywhere.

And ifyou are going to dedicate one day to shopping, you might want to visit Charlotte Amalie over on St. Thomas. St. John is very quaint for shopping, but I think you can go into every store in about 3 hours...then again, I AM a guy, so maybe someone else should recommend the shopping for you! Haha!

Hello Lori,

The Reef Bay is a great trail. If you are going to do it guided with the Park Service - you should make reservations a few days in advance. If the girls aren't certified perhaps a day of dive lessons? or a charter? Lind Point Trail from Cruz Bay to Caneel Bay via Honeymoon Bay is nice if you want beach stops in between hiking. You can hike back or take a taxi from Caneel Bay. Cinnamon Bay is a nice beach day and hiking area.
