I am going to be staying in St. thomas for five nights and I am an avid hiker. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as where the best placest to hike are and if their are any services that provide guided hikes and how I could reach them. I will not have a car during this trip. Thanks!!
The best hiking is in the National Park on St. John. If you take the ferry over, turn left and walk to the Park Headquarters. They have an excellent trail map available for sale, or a less detailed one for free. Have fun!
At the national park headquarters you can sign up for a guided hike down the Reef Bay Trail, which is downhill and quite strenuous. There is a .3 mile side trip to see the petroglyphs. Once you get down to the bay, a park service boat takes you back to town. I believe they provide a shuttle out to the trail.
You can take a taxi or the bus from the ferry dock to the trail head. The Reef Bay guided tour IS an excellent hike. The rangers will teach you a great deal about the flora, fauna and history of the area. Because it is so popular, you might want to call ahead to reserve a spot- (340) 776-6201
