Regarding the high season for St. John, if I were to book for either February or March would the island be so full of people that the town and beaches would be shoulder to shoulder with people? Or should we wait for April? Is there really that much of a difference in people to justify waiting? We live in Michigan and I will really want to get out of here in February ( a break from the snow) if the island is not to busy...

March and February have quiet weeks. Avoid the school vacation weeks like President's Week and the third week in March...other weeks are great! Waiting until April...the rates go down then so it is generally quite busy. The second two weeks in April always book quickly. Hope that helps...need any other info let us know!

I would not say that it's crowded on St john through the middle of May...April is packed. We've been going for over 10 years now and that is one trip we can't change timewise due to work schedules. April is always busy.

We usually go in May or June but this year we managed one trip in high season and another in June. We were there the last week in Feb and 1 week in March is found that it definitely was busier than we liked. Parking is the worst problem in high season IMHO. Another thing to remember is you often have the north beaches unswimable because of northern swells and when that happens the south side is mobbed with people. Also remember that the water temps are colder in the winter.

We are also from Michigan and our winters seem to never end but I don't think we'll be going to STJ this winter. Of course if someone paid my way I wouldn't turn it down to matter what time of year it was:-).

With all of the beaches that STJ offers, you can always find one that is not packed with tourists. Get out your map, pack the cooler and try someplace different. If you were to venture downtown I would check the cruise schedule.

We were in STT in June for my daughter's wedding and we had a fantastic time! Of course with it being our first time, and not knowing how busy it is at different times, we found it wonderful! It wasn't crowded at all, and everything that we did and everywhere we went was open! Maybe we just got lucky, but we found June to be great! Would like to go again sometime, not for sure which month?? Guess I will have to keep reading these posts to find out!!!

🙂 Nancy

I would come in Feb....I lived in Michigan for a long time and Feb was just the worst! The last year I was in Michigan, we had 48 days without ANY sun. We will have tons of son on St. John in any of the months you pick. March is usually the busiest sales wise for our store. Not sure how that works out with # of people on island though. Mid April the rates drop at a lot of places, so that tends to be a busy spurt for us. Also agree that you should try and avoid typical school holidays like Easter, spring break. The biggest issues during high season is parking. If you rent a car on St. John, most places let you park in their lots while you are in town and that helps. For parking at the beach, just go early. You can find a place to park and the beach will be quiet. Hope you have a great time!
