Hello my wonderful St. Croix people!!! 🙂

I have never been to St Croix but had some first time visitor questions. I wanted to take the Sweeney tour and can only do it on a Saturday or Sunday. I read that the Sweeney tour is not happening on weekends unless there is a cruise ship???? That makes sense and all, but I'm staying in Christinstead. Again, only Saturday or Sunday works for me. I take it on weekends Christiansted is OUT OF THE PICTURE??? So I looked into car rental and found the Heritage Trail, but some other sites said there is no way you can do it in a day?????

In short (my famous saying) can you do Sweeneys from Christensted on weekends, if not, can you actually just rent a car for a day and cover the entire Heritage Trail??? (leaving out some things of course, just want to cover it all and stop in Fred, Sandy point, botanical gardens, an point udall)"???? Is that possible??? Is a 2 day car rental needed??? And I just want to sleep the rest of the days, lol

I am not sure about the specific tours you are asking about, but I would recommend at least a 2 day car rental to see the stuff you are interested in. I'm not sure what the "Heritage trail" exactly is--I think it is just a bunch of landmarks/places/activities--its not like the Freedom Trail in Boston where there is some absolute defined route or way to get places.

I would suggest for the 1st day, rent a car, drive out to Frederiksted. Stop at the Botanical Gardens or Estate Whim in the morning. Then go into the town of Frederiksted, stop by the Fort, look around, have lunch (Turtle's Deli has great sandwiches) and then go to Sandy Point in the afternoon (it's only open until 4pm). Spend a couple of hours there at the beach then drive back to C'sted. But take the long (scenic) way back to Christiansted and drive back through the rainforest, then through the North Shore (great views). Maybe stop in the rainforest to feed/see the beer-drinking pigs.

The next day, drive out to Point Udall, hike to Jack's/Issac's bay, drive along the South Shore road, maybe stop at Ha'Penny beach and relax for a little bit. Then go back to your hotel and sleep or do whatever else you want to do.

Try to just relax and not feel like you have to see everything and stop everywhere. Enjoy the slow pace and enjoy the places that you do spend time at.

As far as car rentals, Judi of St Croix and many of the other local car rental companies will drop off the car to wherever you are/want them too. Not sure about the corporate companies--their main offices are at the airport, so you may have to pick the car up at the airport.
