Short and well, not totally sweet as I would have expected as this was our first trip to St. John.

Arrived 10pm Friday, the 13th [should have known] to pouring RAIN! So,the bottom line if 5 different websites tell you it is cloudy or raining everyday you should believe it! There has not been a dry day until today and that lasted until about 2:30pm so we did get to go Trunk Bay and experience some sun and see the beautful water I came to see, then it poured and it is still raining at 4:15pm.

Staying at the Westin. First rate service, from the airport and the staff too, nice pool; however, was suprise to see so many kids being its not school break. We have a Villa Bldg. 31. Ok view, try to get a Villa in Bldg 32, or the older two Villas 33 or 34 they have better views, but Bldg 31 has the newest furnishings. The resort is first rate. The restaurants are ok. Our last nite is tomorrow were trying Chole and Bernards the Westins upscale restaurant for our 10 year wedding anniversary celebration. I'll let you know.

In Town Restaurants.
Parsido very nice, small restaurant the tempura ahi roll and flank steak appetizers were the best.

Stone Terrace - very nice - the fish was great!
Nice atmomspshere.

The Balcony - by far the BEST VIEW for lunch and dinner. Dinner was good the view even better. I would say that each restaurant had something good we have been happy with each one so far.

Off to Asolare - Euro Asian - tonite cant wait, I'll let you know.

For the shopping group of people. In the town of STJ you can do it all in about an hour it is very small. Take a ferry over to St Thomas lots there, not really impressive unless you want to buy jewerly then you'll be in heaven.

My suggestion is to rent a car. We waited until we thought the weather would clear and yes, my husband listened to me and today was the only day of sun to enjoy the beach. Plus Coral Bay was interesting on the other side of the island, there is Skinny Legs - the place everyone said that had the great hamburgers - they were right they were good.

Well, just wanted to give back some feedback first hand as I learned so much from reading all the postings before I left. I hope this info helps - unfortunately, the weather is something we do not get to chose; but so far we've had a great time! Next update soon. Mrs. JGF

Not necessarily. Pay more attention to the analysis of the weather system. Typically we have a 20-30% chance of showers, but even thunderstorms tend to move along rather briskly due to the tradewinds...

But if you see something referring to "stationary low pressure system", "wave" or the like, we expect precipitation because the system is either not moving or is very large and it will take a while to move past us.

My rule of thumb is to expect more persistent rain when the chance of showers goes above 40%.

JGF,
We have a Villa (blg 33) the last week of June. I remember getting info about the Villas being set up for Wireless internet. Is that the case?

I agree...I would much rather have a rainy day in the VI than any day in Michigan!! I have to admit that I do hope that it stops! We are getting married at the Westin in St. John in a little over a week. The wedding and reception are of course outside. I guess that is the risk we take with outdoor weddings! Keep your fingers crossed for us!!

Can't wait to be there.

We were on STT and STJ between May 4th and 13th. The weather forecast was for rain every day, but we only got a few showers until sometime around the 12th when rainy weather was socked in. I'm sorry that the bad weather hung on for your visit but hope you are still loving your trip.

How did you like Asolare? That was my favorite restaurant of all that we tried.

This restaurant is located in downtown Cruz Bay. I believe it may have been Wahoo's? before.

Tell, Mike the owner that Jim and Lisa sent you when you make it back, it's great! Mrs. JGF

Well, we have been here since last Friday and received our prilimary bill and there is so far no charge for Internet access that has worked really well. When we get our final bill tomorrow I will let you know if there is a charge. Mrs. JGF

I agree. A rainy day on an island is better than a sunny one in Wisconsin at work. We leave next Saturday for St. John. It is our 20th wedding Anniversary celebration. We were in the Florida Keys for our Honeymoon and it rained 12 out of 14 days! We still managed to have fun and even went on a few snorkel charters.
I too am hoping for nice weather since we planned this trip over 9 months ago.

We went to Asolare last nite. The place is beautiful and the food was great. The hostess was nice, but the waitress made a funny face when my husband asked for his Ahi Tuna medium. I worked in restaurants thru college and graduate school and that is a no, no!
All in all it was good - a little pricey, but we would probably go back the view is incredible. Mrs JGF

Mrs JGF-

So sorry to hear about the uncontrollable bad weather. It hurts when we lose the gamble with mother nature. My own honeymoon pics are of a rainy week on STT.

Actually, Megans Bay is quite intoxicating on a rainly, warm day when the beach is deserted and the jasmine is in bloom. Did you notice how different the island smells when it rains? There's a sweet, tropical aroma everywhere. You'll remember it when you return and it will conjure up your memories (you know how scents do that for us all).

What does Mr JGF think of the island and your vacation?

I'm glad you made it to trunk bay....and got to sample a little of the good life. I hope you'll try again.

Would you use the Westin transportation again or would you just take a taxi next time and use the money on something else? Did you use any of the Westin's watersports or BVI cruise? Since all the rain, have you noticed an increase in mosquitos? Does Bug and Sun sunscreen help? Thanks for any info. We will be there in 3 weeks. Has anyone tried T-mobile cell phone service from the Westin? Kris

I agree. The last thing you need is the wait staff critiquing your choices. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though, despite the price. We wanted to go back a second time but didn't because of the cost. We got there early - about 5:45 or 6:00 - and had time to enjoy the view and sunset. I forget exactly what I had to drink, but I think it was a mango martini. It was so good. I need to find a good recipe so that I can repeat the experience here at home.
