Isn't it wonderful how these airlines seem to be jerking people around these days? AA advised us today that they have changed their flight schedules, so now MDW and I will be arriving in STT at 8:05pm instead of the earlier scheduled arrival of 3:30pm we had booked with them a month ago. Trying to get an earlier arrival with another airline would be a bit costly, so guess we're stuck with the best AA can offer.

We had been planning on getting a car rental at the airport and driving to Blue Beard Castle where we're staying for a week. But now am wondering what some experienced VINOW members might suggest -- would it be wise getting a car rental at the airport that time of night (assuming they would hold one for us) or would you suggest we take a taxi to the BBC and pick up the car rental the next day?

Appreciate any thoughts. This little hiccup in the road isn't going to impact our high expectations for a fabulous week there, but it has us starting out not as comfortable as we thought we'd be by arriving there in the afternoon.

Car rental pick up at the airport that night is no problem. Agents will all still be there for the scheduled flights. Have you been to Bluebeards before? If not, it might be better to ge thte car in daylight and youwill know how to get back to Bluebeards. Good news is that there is little traffic downtown that time of night since everything but the restaurants are closed.

I'd just take a taxi. Get good nights rest and go to Havensite in the morning for car rental. There's one next to Shipwreck!

I believe that Discount has an outlet at Bluebeard's. Your flight may be delayed as that one is 50% of the time, so why get stressed. Take a cab to the hotel and relax, and then get one the next morning. http://www.discountcar.vi/map.htm

Thanks for sharing those thoughts. The comment about us not being familiar with Blue Beard Castle hit a nerve.

We're still checking out options, but probably will go along with the 8:05 arrival. The AA agent's comment was that our flight really wasn't that bad, as there's some who won't be arriving until the later flight getting in there at 9:48. Boy, weren't we lucky!

Bluebeard's Castle is only about a ten minute trip from the airport at that time of night - probably about 3-4 miles. It's pretty much a straight shot from the airport through town and then a couple of turns. Personally, I would want to get my rental out of the way upon arrival - that day is pretty much shot, anyway. If you decide you want to try to drive to Bluebeard's from the airport, here's a handy tool to use to map your route using starting and destination points and get driving directions that you can print out before you go. It sometimes runs a bit slow but is worth the wait. Be sure to choose "Show All Stops" and, then, before printing, choose "Text with Full Route and Segments" in the drop-down to the right. We have used this tool for all three USVIs and it is very helpful.

Have a great time!

Margy,
Just what I was looking for! Thanks so much. It doesn't look to terribly difficult, so believe we will give driving there a try.

I'm sure I'll have to contact the BBC desk to let them know we'll be a late arrival. But, I thought I read somewhere that you had to park at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the check-in desk. Do you know if you can drive up and drop off the luggage and MBDW, or do we all have to make the journey up the hill?

Thanks again. That was very helpful.
