mike/dawna,

if "not high maintenance" means laid back beach couple, try bolongo bay beach club. there for a while couple of years ago and me and my bride of 39 yrs never left the grounds until we left island. room was clean but dated, people friendly but on island time, nice breeze on beach (in sept), good food at beach rest. for lunch (only customer one day), main rest. had good food and service (again island time) and rates not bad for islands. exactly what we wanted, bride stayed on beach and read and i did same plus spent fair amount of time snokeling, follow counterclockwise current from beach, easy out easy in. beach fairly rocky, but what the hell.

had planned to go back, butttt, found stj next time to vi's and now we only pass through stt on way to stj, but there are some pretty sights on stt. mountain top view of magen bay, outer islands and stj and harbor view from overlook just off rte 33 on upper rte to red hook have knock your socks off views. only other rec i have (sure there are plenty of sights but all i know) for stt is if you have a rental car and you're catching an afternoon flight home, stop at best western emerald beach for lunch. reasonable prices, good view, and only 5 minutes from table to airport no traffic butttt, staff on double secret island time.

beware of cruise ship crowds and plan around. ship schedules in island mag. just don't bother coming to st john nothing there buttt paradise.

I jsut read your remarks about Bongolos and then off to St. John. We are first time vacationers to St. John and were considering Lavender Hill. Any suggestions or advice, we will be there for four days. We are not high maintenance people either.
Thanks!

I've visite with friends staying at lavendar hill and was very impressed with it. My friends said they would definately go again. It is close to town so walking to restaurants at night was very pleasant. Enjoy
