We are going back to St. John for 10 days in February for our 25th wedding anniversary! We were just there in June, but on our way home we were bumped to a later flight, so we got free airline tickets. My DH thought this would be a great time to use them. So my question is, I need some ideas from everyone about what villa's they like. We don't care where we stay whether it be in Cruz Bay or Coral Bay. We want to be able to cook, have air conditioning and possibly a pool. We usually go with a large group and stay in Cruz Bay but this will be a different kind of trip for us. We would like to keep the cost down. We have been to St. John each year for several years now and we know it isn't cheap but maybe someone can help us find a nice villa. I have been doing research but you never know when someone might come up with something you never saw on the net. Thanks in advance for your ideas. Now I can start my coundown again. I can't wait to be back!!!!

Michigander-

Wow, what a great opportunity for your to return to the place you adore, without the expense of airfare! Congrats on the 25th! That is a fabulous milestone.

What villas do you like? Will this be just you and your husband?

Do you have a budget in mind?

The interesting thing about villas is that, often, a larger villa can be found for around the same prices as a small cottage when only 2 people are going to occupy the property. This is because the master bedroom is usually in the main house and the other bedrooms are in a separate pavillion. The pavillion can be locked so that the 2 guests only use the main house, which represents the use of a very small amount of water and electricity.

Do you care if you are in a small cottage or a larger property?

How exciting to plan for this milestone vacation!

Michigander-

I will be traveling to STJ in May'06 to get married and we are renting a villa. We rented a large villa b/c there are 10 of staying together (villa CoCoDeMar) but I went thru my travel agent who I always use and trust A LOT!! She went thru the rental company Villas Caribe 1-800-645-7498 (www.villascaribe.com) to find our villa. The company is very reputable and does not charge a service fee. You have to watch for that because many of them do. They have a list of all the homes that are worth renting on their website. click the island of your choice, then # of beds/baths preferred, etc... I really wanted a home I found on another website but this company would not offer it. It was about the same price as CoCoDeMar and looked VERY nice. Come to find out it has several problems (leaking pool, no working A/C, and power outage problems) so Villas Caribe no longer rents it! They will also recommed rental cars, etc.
Good Luck!

I was just surfing Carefree Getaways website (www.carefreegetaways.com) and saw that they were offering very nice specials for remaining 2005 open dates for several of their villas. Worth checking out...SJL
