I thought I was finished with my search, but now I'm back to square one. This accommodation is for my husband and me for a trip this May: We're celebrating his and my 40th birthdays, our wedding anniversary, and the upcoming birth (in Sept.) of our second child. Whew!

We will consider staying anywhere on the island, but I actually think I might like to have sunset views and exposure, so that probably limits our choices a bit. Other preferences:
pool that gets a good bit of sun
great views and outdoor decks to enjoy them from
AC at least in bedrooms
comfortable and clean

We are only staying 5 nights, so we need a rental agency/owner that allows this minimum stay, and we prefer not to have to pay an extra cleaning fee. (That nixes Caribbean Villas--no need to recommend their properties.)

Thanks so much for your help!

I appreciate any advice you great forum members can impart! Thanks so much!

Try vrbo.com or homeaway.com. I've found some great rentals on those sites.

Estate Lindholm sounds like a good fit for all your specs if you're staying on St. John.

I have a two bedroom condo RIGHT on Sapphire beach. This is the most beautiful beach in STT, perhaps any where in the Carribbean. It has a pool, tennis courts, cable TV, dvd, ac, micro wave large frig, dish washer, dryer, washer and has free chairs. It also has maid service so you don't need to do anything. The master bed room is carribbean in style. If you are interested please give us a call at 340-715-5220. We we bill on island for a few mwore weeks

Are you looking for a place on St John or St Thomas? We own a condo at Gallows Point Resort on St John. They are one bedroom units, with a/c, beautiful sunsets, pool, hot tub, snorkeling, easy walk to town. Not really designed for children. But wonderful for a couple. We can also get you an owners' referral and 10% off rack rate. Check out www.gallowspointresort.com. And there is no minimum nights stay.

If you're looking on St. John, Cloud 9 Villas may work with you on the 5 day stay. Here are links to two of their villas with a pool, a/c, and sunset views.

I checked my usual agencies and I'm seeing cleaning fees for 5 day stays. That seems odd for the places that have mid-week maid service? I think that Hilcrest Guest House, Estate Lindholm and Gallows Points are your best options.

Cheers, RickG

I forgot to say we would like to stay on St. John!

Thanks for the replies so far. Have to go to work, but I'll reply more and investigate these options later.

Keep the suggestions coming....

We are heading down to St. John in June. We are staying at Villa Cielomar. We have stayed there before and loved it. It has a pool with great sun exposure. Also the master bedroom is air conditioned. It is also very affordable for a private house. It is a nice walk into Cruz Bay - it is located just beyond Gallows. Here is the website

www.villacielomar.com

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Looks like Hillcrest is booked. Estate Lindholm is one day shy of having my desired dates. I think that B&B looks really nice, and the reviews seem great.

I may have to look at Gallows Point again. I think I had looked into it and thought that the price seemed a bit steep for ocean view, which I was thinking we'd want. Could someone (BMW mom?) please explain the differences in views from the different kinds of Gallows units available? Ocean View vs Harbor View, for instance. BMW, are units rented directly by owners or by the resort or by another agency? Or all of the above? If someone could explain the Gallows Point deal I would appreciate it. Thanks!

SingerJen: Thanks for the suggestion on Villa Cielomar. I may investigate that option, as I still think having a private villa sounds nice.

Travelhappy:

One our first trip to STJ in 2000, we stayed at Gallows sharing a condo with some friends (which really helped keep the costs affordable for everyone). It was a really nice unit. The grounds at Gallows was lovely and having an adult only facility was very appealing to us since none of us had kids and didn't want to be surrounded by other people's kids while on vacation. Where Gallows is located it is on a point, so the buildings face the waters on a curve; some face the harbor while others face south over the ocean.

While I am not an expert by any means, I understand that many are privately owned and rented through a couple different management companies. As a result, I am guessing some may be nicer than others.

Our trip in June will be our 4th to STJ. It is definitely our favorite vacation spot. BTW, I have heard that the restaurant at Gallows is fabulous! We plan to check it out during our trip this summer.

Not sure if it's available, but check out Villa Carolina. It's 5 minutes up the hill from Coral Bay, and 10 minutes to the beach. There's a fantastic pool deck with 30 mile views to Virgin Gorda. The views are totally sick. Great sun exposure till about 3:30 pm because it faces east. A/C in the bedrooms. Check out the website.

Hope this helps. "Rastamon live up!"
