I'm coming to St Thomas for the wedding of some friends, arriving on 12 June and leaving on the 17th. This is not the main family holiday so I'm coming on my own and don't want to break the bank. Looking for someplace quiet and simple as I will be out most of the time with my friends. Ideas anyone?

Try Harmony Suite --- www.harmonysuite.com -- we stayed there last week and it was lovely.

Hi Marta. What is your budget? Every person's bank breaking limit is different...know what I mean? I assume you are looking for something around or under $100/nt.

Harmony looks lovely (Linda, thanks for reminding me about Harmony - I have to keep that georgeous place in mind) but it is going to run more than $200 per night in the summer. If someone is budget conscious, there are many less expensive places (again, budget is relative). If Harmony is in your budget, there are many others places that will also fit that bill. Harmony's website looks perfect.

For Around or Under $100 night.....

Marta, look into Crystal Palace http://www.crystalpalaceusvi.com/. It is owned by a nice guy who frequents this board. I think he still offers airport transportation for free and the B&B is his family's historic mansion - antiques, traditional island elegance - the whole 9. It is close to town, so you can walk to town from the B&B and he offers a "to die for" view of the harbor. I've visited a couple of times, so my recommendation is from seeing first-hand.

Another good option is Villa Blanca http://www.villablancahotel.com/. It is more of a small hotel than a B&B, but is for budget conscious and is a pretty place. Highly recommended by insiders who know where the deals are but don't want to compromise on comfort and beauty. I have never stayed here, but have seen it in person.

Another option is Frenchman's Bay Hideaway http://www.stthomasvirginisland.com/ owned and operated by Donna Wheeler (she is sometimes on this board). It is part of her home (private apartment below), offers 2 bedrooms and a large pool, is located in Frenchman's Bay and is $100/nt. I have never seen Donna's place in person, but I have met Donna in person. VERY nice lady. She's a transplant form the states.

Another $100 night option is Mafolie Hotel http://mafolie.com/. In its day, it was THE premier hotel on STT. Fairly close to town (can't walk) and well kept. It offers another drop dead georgeous view of the harbor. It is a small hotel and has a nice pool and restaurant.

Sapphire Condos can sometimes be had for around $120 night in summer. Try searching for them. I used to live in one of these - many moons ago. My sources tell me that some are in much better shape than others these days. Shop carefully and you'll get something nice.

Also, I have often gotten into Sapphire Beach Resort beachfront suites for around $125 night by using my Entertainment Card to get the 50% discount rate (summer only). Check to see if they still take it. You'll have to buy the membership (search Traveler's Advantage), but it is good for other travel as well. It pays for itself twice in one night. If you want to be beachfront, this is the place - you're so close you can watch the fish swim by from your balcony.

Secret Harbour http://www.secretharbourvi.com/ may still take the Entertainment Card as well - 50% off. Last time I checked, it worked out to be a little cheaper than Sapphire with the card. Again, a beachfront condo. The beach here is more quiet than Sapphie - and smaller. There's a really good restaurant on the beach...visited by lots of people who aren't even staying at the condos - it's that good. Between Sapphire and SH, I would recommend based on yoru age and your interests. If you want quiet and serenity - pick SH. If you want more action, a larger beach and more people, pick Sapphire.

There are surely other $100/nt options, but if I haven't visited, I can't recommend. Others surely have more recommendations.
