Does anyone have any suggestions for health insurance for self employed people and or people living here without insurance?
We have ours through First Insurance on St. Thomas, it is operated by FirstBank. The website is: www.firstinsurancevi.com
I can't say anything good or bad about them because since I have had them I have not had to make any claims fortunately.

I've heard the St Thomas/St John Chamber of Commerce has a policy that works for many of the self-employed here. A friend of mine has/had it, but I don't know if she's ever had to make a claim.
I've got great health insurance through BUPA for self employed. Company covers the Caribbean and an excellent health insurance. I can attest for their ability to get a patient off island by medical plane when the need arises. The rate is good and when needed care goes beyond A doc in a box, the company gets you the best doctors in my opinion.

Tippi: Does your insurance cover doctor's visits and hospitalization here in the USVI? Also where do you get airlifted? Most medical evacuation is to the closest facility, which means Puerto Rico, not my idea of great health care.
P.S. I think this should be posted on relocation, as insurance for those who live in the USVI is a different thing from insurance for visitors.
East Ender, Yes it does cover loal doctors and hospital. When my spouse needed treatement BUPA brought in a lear jet and he was taken to Jackson Trauma Center in Miami. On board that plane was a dr and a nurse. I was allowed to bring one small bag for myself and one for my husband. BUPA Has offices at the Univesity of Miami Medical (Miller University). I called BUPA late at night and by noon the next day, the plane was here for him. Saved his life, as Schneider didn't have anyone who could help or that I wanted to operate on him.
FYI: They paid his bill for Schneider 100% and for the time he was there $44,000.
