Hello David,

You can visit the hospital website at http://www.rlshospital.org/. As for doctors in private practice; you can pull up the yellow pages at http://www.viphonebook.com and look under physcians to get an idea of what is available. I think asking for a general overview is to... general. Perhaps if you have particular questions asking them might be the best way for myself or others to respond. You might actually click over to the Relocation/Living in the VI board, the link is at the top, right side of this page, just below the row of books. There have been discussions there about medical care and health facilities, including comments by both nurses that have or do work in the VI and patients.

Islander:
I appreciate your most timely response to my inquiry.I agree,my scope of requested information is quite broad and not explicit.
I have friends who are interested in possibly coming to Saint Thomas for an extended period, and I was hoping to get a "feel" for medical facilities in general on your island. Family practice would perhaps be a good beginning. Is Medicare and a supplementary medical insurance provider an exceptable process with many physicians and hospitals in St.Thomas?
To your knowledge, will many pharmacies there participate in Medicare Plan D prescription programs?
Thanks again for your suggestions and advice that I will pursue.
Sincerely yours,
Dave Livingston

David: As Islander said, there is one hospital on St Thomas. Because we are under the US flag, most providers do accept Medicare. They are currently enrolling folks in the Part D prescription program. We do not have the variety of pharmacies to which your friends are accustomed, but we do have them. There are a couple of family practice groups. If they have special health care needs, they need to investigate the availability of services.
