Hi, I was just wondering what the quality of the health care is on St. Thomas, specifically urgent care. Thanks.
No one has an opinion on this topic? Seriously.....?
Maybe give people more than an hour to answer before getting snarkey. My daughter had a very bad infection and went to the Red Hook Family practice on Mother's day a couple of years ago. A doctor came over from St. John and fixed her right up. There is also a large hospital, but I understand some cases are airlifted off-island. People who live there year round probably have more information on that. Give them a few hours to answer as they might not be on this site at this moment.
I wasn't being snarkey. I see how fast everyone replies to subjects like "where can I get a good burger" and thought i might get a similarly quick response to a more important question like health care. No attitude intended.
We had to visit the Urgent Care on St John a couple of years ago and had great service. I was passing a kidney stone and they were super helpful. While the clinic wasn't equipped to handle my situation they laid out all of my options for treatment. They were also willing to make arrangements for me to go to St Thomas for treatment. This is a reoccurring problem and fortunately I carry my own medications with me so I self medicated and made it through the night (passing the stone the next morning). The best part after spending 45 minutes in the clinic they didn't even charge me!!!!
Since it seems you are moving here your question would be better posed on the relocation forum rather than the visitor's forum. You'll find plenty of general information there on the hospitals and medical care in general while a forum search will produce discussions on the subject. And, seriously, if not getting a quick answer to a question is something you find unusual and/or irritating, get ready for some major pressure adapting to island living!
