coming down wed 8/5 to sun 8/9 staying at Bolongo Bay resort, any feed back on this place?

we want to go to St John, the hotel has a catamaran and day trip? or better to go over by car?

want some night life one night and a romantic place another?

we heard that no ships are in that time, is this good , less crowds? but I've heard things arent really jumping , and some things are closed, like BOSS

You'll have a great time at Bolongo Bay. They have a a great restaurant named Iggie's with nightly events. You can check them out online at www.bolongobay.com.

I would recommend a day sail, either at Bolongo or with another of the power boat cruises. If the Bolongo cruise only goes to STJ then you might want to consider one that will take you through the British islands as well. The Bath's on Virgin Gorda, snorkeling in the Caves at Norman Island, Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke to name a few of my favorites. You can take your car over on the ferry to spend an entire day exploring STJ. We love to pack a cooler and bring a map and hit a few beaches. Just make sure that you make it back to the ferry terminal in plenty of time for the last trip.

Head into Red Hook for some nightlife, Duffy's really gets rockin' the later it gets. There are other bars there as well if you want to go bar hoppin. Sometimes Jack's Place in Tutu has live music.

A Room With a View and Romano's are a few of my favorite romantic restaurants. I'm sure that you will here a lot of more suggestions, I'm usually traveling with kid's so I haven't been to too many quiet romantic places on the island.

My favorite time is the off season. A few places may close but there are more than enough great places to visit. Your trip is short, you'll probably already start planning your next trip before you leave the island because you didn't even scratch the surface of all of the places that you would like to see.

Have a great trip!

Molly

The daysail from Bolongo is a great trip!! -- but all you will seeof STJ is probably Honeymoon Beach - if you want to 'see stj' you will need to take the ferry or barge.
Definitely check out Frenchtown for restaurants and night life!
Banana Tree Grille is a great food, view, service and romantic dining venue.

I was talking to some visitors yesterday who were staying at Bolongo. They loved the restaurants and the activities (they had been to St John and a sunset sail on the catamaran.) They loved that it was not crowded. They felt the rooms could use some updating, but it wasn't a deal breaker. They seemed to be getting around, visiting beaches, etc. They were smiling! 🙂
