Hi,

Has St. Johns been affected by haze and ash as a result of Montserrat?

Thank you!

From what I've heard there has been some ash, has not affected water or air quality and provides stunning sunsets.

I left St. John on Monday. Monday was overcast and hazy, and most flights out of STT on American Airlines/American Eagle were delayed because of the ash.

Oh I hope this clears up before July. I am going to be on the islands for the first 2 weeks in July.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I was in the VI for 9 days and the ash really didn't affect things too much. I had some awesome snorkeling and beautiful skies. The only day I noticed any haze was the Monday I was leaving.

I have to say some nice thoughts and reassurance would be welcome. We leave on 6/16 and since I hadn't heard much more about Montserrat, I was hoping the ashy days were over. Alas, I guess you can't control Mother Nature.

Not to worry. At its worst, it looks like an average hazy day in the states. It does sometimes cause some problems with aircraft engines. That's why they will cancel or delay some flights. This round is supposed to be over by the weekend. It appears to have had no effect on the water. My wife & I went diving last weekend and the water was fine. We're going again this weekend. That's one of the advantages of living here. We can go to the beach or diving or whatever, whenever we want. Life is good.
