Hello,

I am going to have a dinner party for our sons wedding party, at our villa the day we arrive. Someone told me I can dry ice steaks and take them with me on the plane and have them to cook that night rather then buy steaks for the dinner. Is that possible and if not how expensive are steaks at the local markets. I can't find a food list at the markets which even list steaks as an item to buy.. What is my best coarse of action, buy or bring?I have even looked at QUV buying steaks and having them sent to pick up the day we arrive>

Thanks for anyone who can help me.

To save yourself time in shopping on your arrival, you can certainly bring the steaks on the flight and don't even need to pack them in ice. If you freeze them beforehand and pack them tightly into a softsided cooler they'll still be frozen when you get here and the thawing out won't take long. If you want some hints on where to stop and buy whatever you need to go with the steaks, let us know which island you're going to and whether or not you're renting a car on your arrival. Cheers!

Most stateside businesses will not ship perishable items here. Your best bet is just to go to Marina Market and buy steaks.

Thank you all for your responces.

I am staying on St John. So at least I know I can plan the meal and how to obtain the main coarse.

Hi Barbies,

The boss packs all his frozen meat in a softsided carryon cooler when he and the wife come down to use the boat. They have steaks, burgers, cheese and all sorts of goodies. Meat is still frozen when they arrive from CT even on a two legged flight through PR. As long as we stow it in the freezer/fridge in a couple of hours of when they arrive there has never been a problem. I encourage the practice as I get to keep the leftover Omaha beef.

I wanted to thank everyone for the great help here.

The menu has changed, no steaks, now chicken. Darn.

I will just wing it and buy the chicken thighs on arrival, bring my spices and such with me and hope for the best

Kids got to love them. They truly think I can cook.

If and when I manage a vacation for just me and the hubby to STJ I will remember your great help.
