My FF&FWD references these tiny sea creatures that glow like fireflies and if you visit Hawksnest I believe it was, about 3 or 4 nights after the full moon, and wade in the water with a flashlight, they will come and see if your a potential mate. You can sccop them up in a jar to check them out and then carefully put them back in the ocean. It sounded kinda cool and I know my little boy would be fascinated by them. Do they come every single month? Only at Hawksnest? What time is best to see them?
The glow worms are a spawning phenomenon of a class of sea creatures called polychaetes. They are found in several bays with sandy bottoms and turtle grass. It is a lunar influenced phenomenon, occuring around the full moon. The best time is one hour after sunset on the night after the full moon, although you can try a few days before and after. They are around every month, although August seems to be particularly spectacular. The coral reefs also spawn around the August full moon, so I guess there is just love in the air!

P.S. It helps if someone tells you where to look. Also, it is easier if you get in the water while it is still somewhat light as the total darkness is disorienting. Use the buddy system. You will need to turn your light out to experience the full effect. And if you are chicken to go alone, contact Homer Calloway- he does a great night snorkel trip on St Thomas.
Do you perchance have a phone number for Homer?
Here is Homer's info, he is out of Hull Bay on St Thomas, and he is a great guy. http://www.nightsnorkel.com/
