Hello,

My name is Josh and I am planning a final summer vacation with my girlfriend to St. Johns this September. We were studying abroad in Italy for the month of June and caught the traveling bug. I would like to ask some questions before I book this trip. Is the month of September a good month to be on the island? I'm planning on staying at the Calabash Cottages does anyone have any experience with them? And one more question I am only 21 and she is 23 I have searched and it seems that the only rental company that will accept us is Budget, is this true/should I rent a Jeep? / has anyone dealt with them? / is there a location on St. John?

Thanks for your help,
Josh

We stayed at Sago Cottage and loved it. Visited the other 2 and they were also very nice. You will need a car.

Look into trip insurance -- The Caribbean in Sept. can have some volatile weather issues.
A number of businesses and restaurants will be closed at times during Sept. so do some research on that.
A rental car is really the only way to get out and enjoy most of St John -- [no 's']

Get trip insurance since you will be traveling in the middle of hurricane season

If you are staying out in Calabash, you will need a car. You will have to rent it on STT and take it on the barge to STJ, make sure you checkyour flight times to be sure that it will work. The barge does not run at night.

St John does not have an S.

Have a great trip

I want to let you know that September is a month were many businesses are closed so you will find that out in Coral Bay where Calabash is your restaurant choices will be limited and yes, you will need a Jeep which you can rent on St. John or on St. Thomas. Trip insurance is a good idea as well. I've never been to STJ in September but many people love it that time of year as the water is warm and the crowds are smaller than at other times. Go for it.

If Budget is the only agency which will rent to you because of your age you will rent from them (a Jeep is preferable for St John) on St Thomas, drive to Red Hook and take the car barge over to St John. The rates and schedules are at the top of this page under, "Quick Links - Ferry Schedule". It's something which thousands of visitors do every year so don't worry about it. Do be sure to look into trip insurance. The cost is minimal and you may never utilize it but it's certainly a good thing to have. Have fun!

Definitely get trip insurance! Besides the weather you never know what's going to happen. We've been planning a trip since January for this October and now my husband may have to have surgery that will have him off work for the next 6 months. I normally don't get trip insurance but did this time and I can't tell you how relieved I am that I did. Make sure you research the insurance companies though, some are notorious for weaselling out of paying claims.
That being said, I"ve been on island in late September and the weather was just gorgeous. Enjoy your trip, I think you'll have a wonderful time!

Try C&C car rental on St. John. When we took all of our adult children 10 years ago, our youngest daughter was under the age they usually allow ( I think she was 24) they did rent to her, but she had to bring proof of her own insurance which would cover her. Now, we rented a total of 5 cars so maybe they made an exception because of that.

Though we didn't rent from Budget, we got our rental in St Thomas and took the car ferry. It's a piece of cake. Much easier to just throw your luggage in the jeep and not have to lug it on/off the ferry.

You definitely need the vehicle though to enjoy St John! Book that trip now!!! 🙂

Our first trip to STT was in September - yes their are restaurants that are closed but you still have many options. I'm not sure about dining on STJ though. The weather was beautiful & trip insurance is money well spent.

Just go!! Enjoy
