My wife and I were snorkeling at Waterlemon last week and saw a fish that was light grey in color and had various size brown spots on it. It appeared to be swimming on its side and would swin a bit and then settle down on the sand and become nearly impossible to see. When we would get close to it it would swim off and then settle down again. Any idea what this was? First we have ever seen.

Sounds like a halibut...but they inhabit mostly northern waters, I think!

My wife and I each saw the same species of fish while snorkeling Waterlemon the first week of Feb. I always thought it was flounder, but it very well could have been a halibut. It was pretty small, but was in shallow water, so that makes sense. I'm sure it was one of the two, but can't be sure which one.

I think you may be referring to a fish in the Citharichthys family. I had to do a net search and I think I have it right. I first saw one in Coral World. I then saw quite a few at Secret Harbor. They are kind of on the round side, think pancake, and they settle down on the ocean floor and virtually disappear.
