*We are planning a trip to St. John for a week and are renting a villa. We plan on cooking most of our meals. We are familiar with a grocery store in Red Hook but would like to know if there's a good market on St. John so we don't have to shop in St. Thomas and then carry the food over to St. John. Are prices and selection comparable on St. John?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

There is a market on St John....it is right near Cruz Bay but it is expensive half gallon of milk is $5 and a gallon OK is like $7 we found it almost as cheap to go out to eat rather than fix our own meals. Just my 2 cents

I have always found that it is best to shop around. I go to Starfish Market in the Marketplace for most things as they have the widest selection. Their prices are a little higher than Pine Peace for instance. Dolphin which is owned by the same owners as Pine Peace has good prices on somethings but not the variety of Starfish. I like SImple Feast for the quality of its meat and good fish. I will miss Marina Market as some of the prices there were even better. Found that wine and liquor at Starfish was more than the liquor store in town. There's a little store in Coral Bay which surprisinly has some pretty good prices but no fresh meats or fish. I like Nature's Nook for vegetables. When I go down I always bring spices, coffee and tea with me. We cook on our boat most of the time (just prefer it that way) and only go out to eat a few times.
Have shopped in Marina Market in Red Hook but always found that carting the food on the ferry isn't worth it. The prices on STJ are higher than the mainland but you are on vacation! Once I did a lot of shopping on STT and was just too exhausted by the time I got back to Coral Bay.
