We will need to make a trip to the grocery store once we arrive, are the prices pretty much the same at the grocrery store in Redhook and Cruz Bay? It will depend on the time we finally get over to Redhook. have dinner then getting the car barge over to CB.

It would have to be a very early dinner in STT in Red Hook to catch a car barge afterwards - i am sure one of our STJ residents can chime in with the approximate last car barge time.
In STT if you shop at Costuless, pricesmart, plaza xtra, you will find it less expensive than STJ.

Thanks for the info. I do have the car barge schedule and we should have no problem making one of the ferries going to STJ.

I concur with exit zero's response where markets are concerned but would also add that although going to either CostULess, PriceSmart or Plaza Xtra will have you going the "other route" to Red Hook, the distance is six of one and half a dozen of the other but is definitely worth it. Marina Market's prices are comparatively high for STT but in line with STJ prices, and Food Center's prices and selection just aren't my cuppa tea for many reasons.

You definitely will be a little tight where having dinner on STT is concerned when the last scheduled car barge is 6:30- 7PM but there are several places in Red Hook which serve pretty much all day long and you might just find somewhere along the "other route" which will attract you.

PriceSmart has a membership deal, by the way. I believe it's $10pa and affords you the privilege of list price on items. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you pay a little extra when you cash out if you don't have that card? I do all my "extra" shopping for my business between CULess and PlazaXtra and never hesitate to recommend both. Cheers!

I should have said we will be having a late lunch! Figured if we are at Molly Malone's by 3PM, we should be able to make one of the last barges over there. If it looks like we are running late, we can always wait to have our meal over on STJ. I know where the grocery store is at Red Hook, is that the Marina Market? I will email PriceSmart to find out what the cost of a membership is there. Might be worth it to be able to pick up some steaks for a cook out one night!

Yes, the small grocery store opposite the ferry terminal is Marina Market. I wouldn't bother with PriceSmart as if you plan on taking the "other" route to Red Hook you'll go right by CostULess first and then if there's anything you can't find there you'll also go right past Plaza Xtra in the Tutu Park Mall. Both have very good meats.

Thanks for the info on CostULess. Looks like we will just stop there to get our things that we don't plan on taking. On their website, it says it is on Weymouth Rhymer Hwy, is that route 30? I know that way over to Red Hook. Thanks for all your help!!

Hi. Please excuse me jumping in, but I have a question on this topic as well.

We booked a villa on STJ. We are arriving STT on Saturday around 2pm. It will be the day before Easter. We had planned to take the ferry across and do our grocery shopping. My guess is that it would be 4pm at the earliest. Will groceries be available this late? What about Easter Sunday? We plan on eating out every night, so we just need a few basics for breakfast.

Where is the CostULess? We will be coming from STT airport to Cabrita Point. Is there another good store for batteries or misc items if needed. Ariving Mar 29, can't wait to exit the brown grass and no leaves of Wisconsin.

CostULess is off the Weymouth Rhymer Highway which is Route 38 - very easy to get to and easy access. One small thing - they very rarely provide plastic bags and they don't do any bagging at any time, so bring your own bags. They DO keep a large supply of empty boxes right by the registers to stuff your things into. I have an assortment of "green bags" I keep in the car for all my shopping but the boxes do help too especially if you're buying liquor. Cheers!

Just curious, why don't you like Food Center? We're staying in a villa on St. John but were thinking about stocking up at Food Center. Two years ago we were very pleased with Food Center. Has it changed?

Just see their meats are sometimes very "iffy" looking and produce very sketchy. Prices not competitive compared to CUL or Plaza Xtra. Just MHO! Cheers!

smithduke: I agree with STTResident. They also have some iffy produce. They put the price tag over the "sell by" date on bags of salad greens and if you peel the tag back, you may find that they are past due. Their packaged items and beer, wine and liquor are okay. Just watch 'em like a hawk on fresh items.
