we are arriving this week; have a rental car; we want grocery store recommendations. in the past we have gone to Pueblo near Tutu and Food Center, occasionally to Marina Market; but we have not been to USVI since 2006. I wish to stop at the market on the way from the airport to Sapphire or in the afternoon, shortly after we arrive.
I would appreciate suggestions on grocery store recommendations; we will be staying a week, always cook our own breakfast, and occasionally eat lunch in our suite as well.
Thank you for your suggestions.

I would try Cost u Less off the Harwood Highway - called Market Sq East - near the movie theatres and Home Depot - fairly wide selection of food and drink supplies - paper goods, sundries etc. on the way to your unit -- maybe Marina Market during the week for a meat or fish entree.

I had thought that Cost-u-less was for big purchases. How is it for dairy (eggs, milk, butter), fruits, OJ, etc.?
we will only be in St. Thomas for a week, and do not need a case of paper towels.
what do you think of Pueblo or Food Center or Plaza Extra?
Thank you.

No. CostULess offers retail packages of most items. Eggs by the dozen, millk by the half gallon, fresh meats in retail quantities, great produce section - whatever!

Plaza Xrtra yes, Food Center sorry but a zero although I know that others will disagree. To bed for me! Cheers!

My husband and I go to STT a couple times a year and stay in a rental on Cabrita point. We have our routine now and go to Cost-U-Less and Plaza Extra. We've had multiple bad experiences at the Food Center and will never go back. You can find some good deals at Cost-U-Less and you don't have to buy in bulk. Have a great time. We'll be heading down from the sub-zero weather on Friday.

I would say no to Food Center for produce and meats, but okay for packaged items, beer and wine. They place their price tags over the sell by date on fresh items. You have to watch them like a hawk. I have complained to the produce manager again and again.

I personally do not step into Pueblo.(td)

Cost-U-Less for most items.

Another idea is Fruit Bowl which is newly expanded and renovated. I haven't been but some friends swear by it.

Turn right out of the airport and follow the waterfront road all the way to the end (Havensight.) Turn left at the light and at the next light turn right onto Raphune Hill. Raphune becomes Weymouth Rhymer Highway and when you come to the next light you'll see a left lane turnoff and a big sign for Market Square East, turn into the complex and you'll see CostULess on the left. They don't bag your purchases so either bring your own bags or grab some boxes from the pile they keep in an area by the cash registers for that purpose. Have fun!

I love the grocery section of Food Center and don't purchase much meat (if at all). Produce nice too. The store is bright, airy and clean!

Cost U Less is a great place to shop for our overnight visitors because you can buy in quantity. I like their keeping boxes on hand to pack your groceries in, and in case you do need a little plastic bag there is someone at the exit with a pile of them.

I generally carry my own Plaza Extra (my regular store) totes when I shop anywhere, to reduce the amount of plastic bags being used. My own little salute to less waste in the landfill.

Just returned from STT. We went first to Cost-U-Less, where we bought some produce, but found that the sizes of most items were too large for our family of two staying just one week on the island. We could not possibly eat the cereal in any of the boxes during that time, nor use the entire bottle of olive oil of the smallest size that we found. We were looking for breakfast food.
For our purpose, Plaza Extra was a better choice. We were able to buy a 15 ounce box of cereal -- more than sufficient for one week, and half gallon containers of milk, orange juice, and a small loaf of bread at Plaza Extra.
We did patronize Marina Market for the Daily News every day since the little store at Sapphire was closed; later in the week we bought some bananas and bought some coffee that we ground ourselves there. We even bought a few items at Food Center later.
Thank you, everyone , for your advice.

Watch out for the price of produce at Marina Market. We were packing a cooler for the day so I didn't notice until I was at the checkout line that the price for the strawberrys was $19.00! I'd say that was the first time since my college days that I reverse shopped.

Plaza Xtra is located in Tutu Park Mall. When you exit CostULess (yes they have lots of meat there) turn left and continue on Weymouth Rhymer Highway. At the next light, go in the left lane and turn left and you're on the Mall road. Go up a little bit and you'll see KMart, take a right, go past KMart, continue on and Plaza Xtra is at the very end.

Molly, I too did a reverse shop at Marina Market once when a couple of tomatoes rang up as something like $6! They were nice but not THAT nice!
