Hi all,

I have been reading some of the posts on grocery stores but did not see exactly what I am looking for.
I need to find a nice grocery store that will be no too far off the path from the airport to our Marriott Rental/Frenchman's Cove.

The end of February will be our first trip down where we have not stayed in a hotel and I am trying to get a sense of where we can stop and shop on our way to our condo.

Thanks for any help!

rhonda

"Nice" grocery store? Would you settle for just a grocery store? On the way to Frenchman's Reef/Cove you'll pass by the Pueblo Supermarket. Most of the residents shop at Pueblo for basics, but the preferred stores aren't on the way to Frenchman's.

Gourmet Gallery, as the name implies, is a nicer store than Pueblo, but smaller. Their "fresh" produce prices are way expensive, but most of the other items are maybe a bit higher or the same as other stores. There's one in Havensight Mall which you'll pass on your right as you head to Frenchman's.

There are TWO Pueblo's on your way. One at Crown Bay RIGHT on the highway through town. The other is at Mandella Circle. THESE ARE REALLY THE ONLT FOOD STORES ON YOUR WAY. If you take a taxi to the Marriott he probably will not stop for you. You can go later after you check in. Then the Puelbo at Mandella Circle is the best for you. It is about two miles from the Marriott.

Rhonda: What is "nice"? I would probably stay away from Pueblo, spend the money with Gourmet Gallery or go out of your way a bit. If you want fruits and vegetables, try the Fruit Bowl at Wheatley Plaza. Or if you want beer, wine and a variety of food stuffs, go up Raphine Hill (right at the Fruit Bowl) to Cost-U-Less. If you have a car (and if you are at Frenchman's Cove, it is recommended) these places really aren't far at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions-- this is a great help.

By nice, I meant something other than the tiny little markets. We will be shopping for 6 people in ages from 4-70 so I am hoping to find everything in a single stop. And by convenience, I mean that I am happy to pay premium for the pleasure of one stop on our way to the condo. And yes-- we are renting car, I would rather spend the money on alcohol that taxis! 🙂

Thanks again for all the info!

No such thing here as "one stop shopping".

I think Cost-U-Less comes closest to one-stop shopping. Pretty good produce, meats, beverages. You still might have to fill in for some more specific items. They don't bag for you- either bring bags or there is a place at the check-out area where you can grab used boxes to carry stuff.

Rhonda, give us an idea of what's on your list, and we can better tell you which store to go to. Also, what time are you arriving on island?

There's a new organic market up the street from the Pueblo in Longbay that's closest to Frenchman's in the Lockhart Shopping Center - Four Seasons, but it's not "on the way" to Frenchman's. Their meats look good, and I can't remember if Fruit Bowl (best place for fresh produce) now sells fresh meats. Four Seasons sells McArthur milk which is a big deal to some people.

Billd - she already said she was renting a car,

CostULess is a 15 minute diversion depending on the time of day your flight arrives - and I recommend this place above all for such as yourselves who are looking to stock up for a family group. Very good meat department, very good produce department, huge selection of frozen goods and one of the best liquor and wine selections. And all at most reasonable prices. How did so many of us oldtimers ever liive without them! Cheers!
