great board, gang. thanks. i read a prev thread about stores to buy groceries n beer. the place we're staying has a kitchen. does STJ have these places? also, can anyone recommend a beach on STJ where there might be the possiblity of not seeing other humans for awhile? (not elitist, but SICK of congested philly right now!) i'm sure you'll be seeing my name a lot here in the next few days-thanks in advance.

On the Cruz Bay side of things we have four main markets, couple smaller marts:
Pine Peace, best all around prices. Not much in the way of fresh meats, but plenty of frozen
Dolphin Market, good produce (check expiration dates on perishables like meats, dairy, crackers, etc)
Starfish Market and sister store Starfish Gourmet, best over all selection of everything, best place for meats. Liquor and beer are only in the Gourmet Market (across the hall from one another).
St. John Market, good selection of produce, the newest market, probably the most expensive.

In Coral Bay there is Lily's and Love City. Both smaller markets, but they have the basics.

The BEST time to go to the beach and not see anyone is in the early morning. The busiest beaches will be Trunk, Hawksnest, and Cinnamon. A good book to get to learn more about St. John is Fins Feet and 4WD. A great site to check out is www.seestjohn.com. Click the link on the left "beaches" and you can get a lot of great info.

Enjoy!
