*we will be getting married this oct. in st john is there agood place to buy groceries and booze in st john? would we be better off shopping in st thomas? we prefer to do our provision shopping in st john is there a decent meat market ? thanks david
Starfish Market in the Marketplace in St. John has everything you could possible want. It is owned by the same people that own Star Markets in the Massachusetts area. The price of wine and liquor there is higher than in some other places. I found Blue Sapphire Gin at "sparky's" for almost $5 less than Starfish. There is a place close to the dock that is just a liquor store but I'm not sure of the prices there. Many say that buying liquor at KMart on St. Thomas is much cheaper. Then again you have to factor in the cost of the ferry and taxis. Starfish has excellent meats. I prefer not to buy the prepackaged steaks and some other meats but they do have a case where there are loose cuts (and I think better). Their fish is just a little higher than stateside but it is good. Actually, as most St. Johnians do I shop in many different places. I'm always looking for the best prices.
thanks for the info. we also plan on renting a powerboat for the day. is nauti nymph about the best one or do you suggest someone else? we are texans but not rich texans. cant wait to get married there. this is our 5th year in arow to the virgins but the 1st time staying on st john. also plan on renting ajeep for acouple of days.
Go to Marina Market for food. What you cant get there, go to starfish. Starfish is almost a dollar higher per item or more.
Booze at marina market is cheaper. Try Mixology for booze also.
