Day 4; June 30th – My masterfully planned itinerary had us scheduled to catch the Red Hook ferry to STJ today, but after the very long day yesterday, we instead opted to go to Coki Beach. Only 1 ship in today, so I hoped it wouldn’t be too awfully crowded. We decided to run through the Drive Thru at McD’s for breakfast. After 40 minutes in line, we determine that “island time” fast food isn’t the wisest and expedient of choices!
None-the-less, with biscuits in our belly we made our way to Coki. I know some don’t like Coki due to the crowds and vendors, but I have to say we enjoyed it! ADD boy bought the four milkbone biscuits for a buck to feed the fish, and literally hundreds of fish flocked round him instantly! HMG was none too happy with the fish, but ever so slowly she evolved from shrieking, to a faint chant of “this isn’t real - - this isn’t happening - - this isn’t real”, to finally a full-fledged snorkel along side our now amphibian friends. “Princess” also did not want her hair braided, but we taught her to just politely say “no thank you.” Taught ADD boy to focus long enough to snorkel. Bought some Coronas, Chicken Sandwiches and Burgers at the beach. We now start to smell a curious scent that takes us back to the last Aerosmith concert we attended (and I won’t say how long ago that was :-)). So much for sitting on the beach. Let’s swim some more! HMG is getting sick of the sand (?!) and now begs to swim in the Marriott pool. To avoid any further complaints, we decide to do just that. After 30 minutes at the pool, ADD boy is bored and wants to check out the Morningstar beach. ADD boy loves the fairly nice break at the beach. HMG is not happy with the waves. And sand. So, pruny and tired, we all clean up for dinner.
We decide to try the XO Bistro in Red Hook as I’m craving some wine after all the “whine” this afternoon.
Kids nearly fell asleep at the restaurant.
They order pizza and ODH and I share the spicy thai salad and shrimp & scallop kabobs. Very good, although we all are left with a craving in our collective tummies. Need sugar! Walk across the street to go to Cold Stone Creamery. Well, it is now a sushi place. Damn it. So, we decide to hit at Duffy’s for adult refreshments (Pirates Painkiller) and dessert. They are OUT of ice cream!! We get our “attitude adjustment” necklaces from the waitress since the pouts on ADD and HMG’s faces seem to warrant this.
Decide to go to K-Mart to buy them snorkel gear and get ICE CREAM, for the Love of God. One tub of Ben and Jerry’s plus two spoons equals happy children.
I'm surprised she didn't want her hair braided. I thought that was "in" for all of the little girls. 😉
Somehow I recall that scent from Coki as well. LOL
Gari-Ann - I know! I was shocked that she didn't want the braids, and I even half-tried to talk her into it. She's very picky about her hair though - - where she gets that I have no idea 😉
I guess that's where "high maintenance" comes into play. LOL
Love the pics and especially your commentary. You are a funny girl!!!
Thanks so much for the trip reports. Love the pictures and can't wait for some more info from your trip.
Do you take your children with you on all your trips ?? Just wondering :o)
Connie - Usually we are w/o kids! We've been 3 times without and this was the 2nd with kids. Definitely two different types of trip! We are fairly big "partiers", and by that I mean we drink like fiends during the day and at dinner, and then pass out around 9 pm! Come to think of it, we still did a fair amount of drinking even with the kids. oops.
That's great LLBL. Glad you've also experienced it without the kids!!!
