We're sailing out of NY on April 1. Just received a change in the itinerary. Grenada is off the list and San Juan was put on. I'm hearing rumors that some tourists were robbed in Grenada? Would that be a reason why the ship's not going there? Any info would be appreciated. I hear San Juan is just as beautiful. 10 DAYS AND COUNTING!!!!!!!!!!

This site is for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Try Trip Advisor for the areas you're referring to.

I'm really bummed for you. Grenada was our favorite stop on our cruise (other than St John, if course). We jumped in a private cab and this guy drove us for 15 minutes or so to some random hotel. He told us to walk through the grounds toward the beach. When we arrived on the beach we were the only people there for hours. It was some of the best snorkeling ever and the scenery was PERFECT. In town we had roti at some tiny little restaurant and it, too, was fantastic. We loved Grenada.

I looked online for articles about Grenada crime and there aren't any big stories. Personally, I can't see why they would avoid Grenada due to crime and then drop you off at San Juan.

Thanks for the info. I am a little disappointed but things happen for a reason. Maybe next time.

I doubt crime has anything to do with it. I recently saw on the news that San Juan is the highest in the United States for some crime rate...I can't remember which one...I think it was murder. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm sure you'll be fine, but I'm just trying to make a point that I'm guessing that Grenada wasn't cancelled due to crime.

I would think it was cost takes alot of fuel to get all the way down there and with the price going up it might be why

The seas have been rough and perhaps they realized they wouldn't be able to tender people in? Just another idea...

I'd guess that the most reliable info about why the itinerary was changed would come from the cruise line itself rather than from an internet forum. You signed on for one itinerary, if they're going to change it they should be willing to explain themselves.

Well I took your advice and spoke with my travel agent. The reason given was the ship had engine problems and can't retain full speed. I'm guessing Grenada is to far to keep to the schedule so San Juan was substituted. I don't really mind as long as there's sun, sand, drink and lots of fun.
