Click on this link: http://www.budget.com/deals/hotdeals/index.html (well, copy and paste it, anyway! haha!)

Then click on "Internet Specials", then scroll down to
"$129/Week Compact" and click on "Reserve Now". Then put "STT" in as your airport code and fill in the rest of the info and click on "Proceed to Step 2 of 3" and then pick your car! I recommend bringing your proof of insurance from home, as they will charge you $14/day if you don't have insurance. (not 100% sure that they will accept your proof from home, but it's worth a try).

Budget is also OK with you taking your car to STJ and you can pick up your car at the airport in STT.

Happy driving!! And stay left!!

We rented a "compact car" from Budget & picked it up at the airport.
I declined the insurance.. they never asked us if we held insurance at home.

The nite before we left, a local drove into the back of our rental car & put a nice 'lil dent into it!!

When we brought it back to the airport the next day.....(OH yea...by morning the dent had popped out!!).....& told Budget about our 'lil ...now scrape on the back of their car...they STILL never asked us about our car insurance back home!! Now the local that hit us gave us all his insurance info, that we gave to Budget....

But Budget did charge us extra for us saying that we both would be driving.
I changed my mind & left hubby do all the driving....but we still had to pay for 2 drivers.

I'm getting 154.99, still not bad. Will we be OK on ST. John w/o 4wd?

Yep, just don't go driving across any fields or down two-tracks (trails). Front wheel drive is fine.

Thanks Marty for cheaper heads up on Budget. Upgraded an exisitng reservation from the Escort to the Taurus for 6 bucks more.
How are they in STT on giving an hour or so extra grace time on returns? They can be hard nosed about it in the states.
Regarding the 4WD question for STJ, dont think I'll need it because like I tell my brother Raymond "I'm an excellent driver".
Here in Northeast, too many yahoos driving SUVs think 4WD means "defies laws of physics" - yeah you can go faster in bad conditions, but what about stopping?

Hello jmq,

A buddy rented a car for a day last week while visiting on St. Thomas and returned it 2 hours late, Budget charged extra for being late. Not sure if this is their stance in all cases, or whether they might be more willing to let it slide during off season or for week rentals?? Anyone else had any personal experience with rental car late fees?

Islander - we'll be doing a weekly, w/ pick up at airport after arriving at 8:35AM on Caribbean Sun Airlines on a Monday, then dropping off a week later prior to a 12:20 PM departure. I was hoping for the extra hour or so wiggle room - maybe I'll ask and get it in writing if they say OK, or am open to other suggestions (renting at different Budget location, etc.) Thanks.
