During my stay-> June 22-July 1, I had some great food! My favorites included Miss Lucy's for lunch, smoothies on Gift Hill, Shela's Pot and Uncle Joe's Barbecue. The crunchy fish sandwich was sooo good! Prices were great for lunch. We had lunch twice there and dinner once.

Dinner Menu at Miss Lucy's

This cutie was waiting at our car.

Shela's Pot was also very good and it was just the authentic Caribbean food that I was looking for!

Uncle Joe's Barbecue- The ribs are the best that I ever had and we ended up having them three times.

Misc snacks:

We loved stopping for a smoothie everyday when we left the beach. This was my daughters favorite place for a pina colada.

Yes! I love Caribbean food! I bought some spices at St. John Spice and made some yummy SPICY chicken!
Here are a couple more things that we snacked on. We had a tough time finding fresh fruit, it must have not been the season. But we did find this small coconut.

And this was the stuffed shrimp that I had for dinner at Miss Lucy's. I took this pic at night and it didn't come out that great!

I also loved snacking on the beef, chicken and fish pate. They were so good. I would love to learn how to make them.

We always enjoy some local food when we're on STJ. More people should try some. We always want to see what's unique about a place. It would never cross my mind to eat Chinese or Italian food in the Caribbean. For dinner in Cruz Bay we like Sogo's (West Indian) or Sosa's (Latin Caribbean). For a lunch we stop at Hercules for pate or Shela's or Patrick's. Mooie's is a good place to stop for a drink and a local experience.

In Coral Bay, Sweet Plantains or Miss Lucy's have upscale West Indian. We also like to stop at some of the truck/stands at the triangle. The guys at Fire Foods are doing some intertestin g local stuff. The Sputnik bar sometimes has food. It's also a very interesting place to stop for a drink. There's "local" as in Skinny's or Larry's Landing, then there's "local" as in Mooie's and the Sputnik.

I agree! I really wanted to try the local food but I understand that others do not. My daughter would not try half the things that I did. Which is why I packed lots of Mac & Cheese. However she did like Sun Dog at Mongoose Junction. She ordered a plain cheese quesadilla-> see what I mean? We also ordered pizza another night for her. I did stop at a truck/stand but the woman didn't have anything left. She said that she cooks mostly for the workers as they have "assignments". One thing I wished I had tried was callaloo. The festival offered it but most nights it didn't get started until after 7pm so I missed it. I skipped most of the restaurants because most of them had food that I was used to and I wanted to try something different. I learned one thing..I'm not a big fan of the conch fritters. They looked so good but I just didn't care for them.

Dreamconch...sorry for the torture! I wish I had a beef pate right about now!

Do you scrapbook Darlene? These are some really neat pictures! They'd be great for a scrapbook since they aren't the usual pics..love the signs, food and menus!

That goat is just too cute! I hope she won't be food later. LOL I was somewhere once, and saw a really cute goat. Then I noticed it was chained to the BBQ pit. eek! 🙁

Darlene: Mac and cheese is one of the favorite local side dishes. Once you try it you'll never be able to go back to the boxed sort!

Hi Gari Ann in TX,

No, I don't scrapbook but it sounds like fun! I'm pretty sure I was eating fish....I think, LOL. I loved all the animals on the island. The pigs, goats, deer, donkeys, mongoose, etc, but I couldn't help thinking about them getting hurt on the winding roads. Some animals that I saw were limping, twisted limbs..... 🙁 I had to put it out of my mind or it would have ruined my vacation. I just made sure we drove slow around turns and we were always on the lookout for them. Here are a few pics.

East Ender,

The mac & cheese on the island is great!!! I had it on the side with my dish from Shela's. I was surprised to see it with most dishes offered there. But once again.. fussy teen! She does not get that from me. I'll try almost anything! 🙂

Just had to add this one!
