Nope, not yet. I hear the villas have a strange feeling. Have you ever stayed in those villas before, Bandit? Have you ever seen them?

Bandit:

We stay next door at Point Pleasant. During our last visits in October & December 2005 Pineapple Beach was not being maintained. We went across the street to Coki Beach & Sugar Beach at Point Pleasant. The property, however, appeared to be maintained (clean), but we didn't venture onto the property itself.

I'm going to be staying at Point Pleasant in March and would like any advice you can offer as you've recently stayed there yourself. Thanks

We're owners at Point Pleasant. We have been staying there since April 2004....several times a year.

What would you like to know?

Also, do rent a car. Taxis can be very expensive if you do multiple trips per day.

I was just in St. Thomas this past week. Spoke to former Gen Mgr. of Grand Beach Resort. He said it was recently sold to Holiday Inn which will operate it under their Crowne Plaza Resorts brand. In fact, I noticed quite a bit of traffic going in and out of the Smith Bay Road enterance. Restoration work is being done through July when they hope to open up part of the resort, the balance by Oct. 1rst.

Wow, a Holiday Inn? Or Corwn Plaza? That is a big property for them, isn't it?

Okay......the saga continues.....

In October we were told that the property was bought by Holiday Inn for a Crown Plaza Resort....in December we were told that the deal fell through.....I really hope that it will become a Crown Plaza Resort or something as good.

I'd appreciate any tips in getting a nice view and a bright suite. Also, what's the best beach nearby. Is it worth going to Sapphire for the day instead? Thanks

I assume that you rented a superior suite.....if so I suggest that you call ahead and or request a top of the hill suite for the best view. A lower unit will place you at about water level...still very good. If you rented a junior suite....well...your view and location will not be that good.

Best beach nearby, imho, is Coki beach. Just walk accross Pineapple Beach (next door), cross the street, turn right and walk about 100 yards. Of course if you want privacy the small Sugar Beach, on property, is our favorite for seclusion and snorkelling.

Sapphire Beach on Sunday afternoon is a must....for the beach party.

Regards,

F.I.

There was another deal a year or so ago - renovations were in process then the deal fell through. A friend of mine was working on the property, and I dont think he ever got paid for the job, either.

Somehow I think the Palace Resorts just want the thing to sit as a reminder that they don't play island politics...but that's just my two centavos 🙂
