We'll be on STJ for a week (in a week!) and will take a day trip to STT. I've never stayed on STT--could someone with know-how recommend a good restaurant for lunch near Havensight? We won't have a car so I'm trying to limit taxi costs...

Also, since I'm seeing the CA ferry is currently not working, any idea the distance and cost via taxi to Havensight from Red Hook??

Thanks!

Why limit yourself to Havensight ? Downtown is not far from there and there are a lot of good restaurants to check out. What kind of food are you looking for by the way?

In the Havensight area: Pizza Amore, Shipwreck (burgers) or Charlotte Tamale (Mexican.)

Just a short walk to Yacht Haven Grande and Wikked or Fat Turtle.

Beni Iguana (sushi) is supposed to be open this week at Havensight, but I haven't personally seen it yet!

EE: Don't forget Delly Deck right in the Havensiht Mall. Really good sandwiches and their Reuben was the best ever. Great breakfasts too.

The Delly Deck is under new management. No comment yet, will take a couple more meals...

EE: Will be interested to hear your comments about Delly Deck. I've eaten there under at least four different ownerships over the years and everyone who has taken over the place hasn't tried to fix what aint't broke (such a refreshing rarity) so the consistency has remained solidly good - hope that trend continues. Cheers!

Thanks to all for the suggestions. We don't have any type of food in mind particularly. But several of these suggested spots sound good.

As to why limit ourselves to Havensight...ummm, being cheap? LOL Hate to spend big bucks on taxi fare. Looking at the taxi rates on this site (thanks SoCaTraveler--should've looked here to begin with), it's looking like $44 for 4 of us to get from Red Hook to Paradise Pt and that's another $44 back again so geesh. After spending $100 (don't forget that tip!) already, I'm not inclined to venture into downtown too. Plus, seems most folks on the forum speak more highly of Havensight anyway.

Of course, once we arrive and adopt the "oh heck, it's vacation, we'll worry about $$ when we get home" attitude that always seems to creep up on us, we may cruise on to downtown shops/restaurants after all! LOL

Okay, going downtown, maybe by ferry? Try Cuzzin's- great people and terrific food.

re.taxi rates. instead of taking the taxi inside the fence at Red Hook, walk outside to the road and take the $1.00 safari bus. It will take longer to get there because of all the dropping and picking of passengers...but it will only cost you a $1.00 per person
to get to Havensight.

By taking the safari bus you will see more and save a BUNCH of money. The bus makes a circle, you can ride to town and return to Red Hook. Renting a car will cost less than a taxi, if you plan on seeing the island.
Good luck and have fun

I noted in another post that an article in STT Source today indicates that Transportation Services CA to Red Hook ferry will be back in operation end of this week with the Varlack Ventures ferry back on in next two weeks.
