I am looking for a half-day sail for the 2 of us to go on out of STT or STJ. We are looking for a sail boat (cat or monohull) who spends most of the time sailing as opposed to motoring.

Does anyone have any info about any of these boats (or suggestions for ones i didn't include)?

Spree w/ Capt. Bob out of STJ

Dayream or Coconut from the Wyndham

Capt. Phil's Wayward Sailor

Island Spirit (?) from the Westin

Fury to Buck Island

I recommend Wayward Sailor hands down although I know nothing of the others. Phil is really good if you have never been snorkeling and knows the areas around STJ like the back of his hand. Realize it is only two of you but he is also great with kids of all ages. If you are not into a party boat, more interested in sailing, snorkeling and getting to know more of the local flavor, Phil's the man.

I have heard good things about Spree and Capt. Phil suggested him when the Wayward Sailor was not not available.

We have taken the Calypso out of St. John several times; Snorkel/Jost trip and Snorkel/Norman Island trip. Wonderful boat and the captain & crew are exceptional. http://www.calypsovi.com/

Thank you all for the input. We are excited to get there. So many things to do, so little time! We'll have to plan a return trip!

Waterguy: Any contact info for Rusty?

Misterduffy: Where does the Calypso launch from?

Hi - the Calypso leaves from Downtown Cruz Bay (National Park Ranger Dock across from Morgan's Mango/Mongoose Junction area) We have a trip booked with them next month. This will be our 4th time on the Calypso. Whichever boat or trip you choose, enjoy!

Captain Mike on the Fury is a good choice.

If you pick the Fury tell him that Mike from Point Pleasant sent you.

I would agree with misterduffy. Calypso is a fun sail. I've sailed with them twice. Great crew and wonderful Captain. Here is their website. www.calypsovi.com. Have a great time!

Thanks for all of the input.

The trimaran that was referenced earlier is the Trisel II out of St. John with Capt. Rusty. Does anybody have experience with this boat?

Does Calypso actually spend time sailing, or do they mainly motor?

Im pretty much down to Calypso, Trisel II (for the pure sailing - he apparently does not motor at all), or the Spree (for the price).

Everybody on this board has been very helpful. Thanks!

Trisel is one of the fastest and best sailed boats out there - he works the boat as well as anyone and the daysail would be a treat. I rarely see Spree without her sails up either, he is a good sailor too.
I am out there almost everyday and those are 2 fine sailing boats and well respected Captains.

Captain Rusty even sails to his mooring ball in front of the weston how he gets thru the other boats is beyond me. He has great stories and he built the Trisel him self.

All of the trips sound great. Choices, choices.

I have a feeling with fuel costs, sailing will become more and more popular with the owners of the boats.

Thanks to everyone for their input!

Settled on Capt Bob & Spree. He seemed very nice on the phone and it sounds like it will be a good ride. I will report back after our trip.
