Can anyone recommend their favorite restaurant? I can go to the 5 star restaurants at home. We're looking for the Caribbean flavor where the locals frequent. Also, the more casual the better. The dress up clothes don't come with us on vacation!

I forgot to add that we will be on St. Thomas and St. John.

Thanks!

forgot to mentionspickels for lunch. btw none of these are "carib" food. just good, fairly cheap( for st john) places to eat that are often frequented by "locals". sorry, we don't know anything about st thomas other than to suggest red hook area in general

go to coral bay area on st john. try shipwreck landing ( slightly more "real" dinner food), island blues ( mostly bar food), p&b cafe ( breakfast and some evenings for pizza) and of course, skinney legs for hamburgers, but no french fries.

Well, I don't know about cheap anywhere in the Caribbean!! 😉 But for reasonably priced Caribbean food- Cuzzin's in town on St Thomas! Sitting outdoors, looking at the water is pretty much a Caribbean activity, and reasonably priced places include: Sopchoppy's (Red Hook), Iggie's (Bolongo), Hook Line and Sinker (Frenchtown), Fungi's (on the Renaissance beach, but part of Point Pleasant), Bonnie's and Arthur's (Cowpet Bay), Hull Bay Hideaway. Happy dining!

Try Cuzzins or Glady's in town for local food. Then there is Victor's New Hideout over in the sub base area... also local food.

Other places I've heard of from locals but never been to but will be going to this next trip:

Lillians located on the first floor of the Grand Hotel facing Emancipation Park.

Petit Pump Room ... local food and is near the sea plane ramp.

(really local)
Karen's.... street between big city parking lot and territorial court house. Supposedly has a walk up window and plastic tables/chairs and reportedly has great seasoned rice and pate. Hmmm.....

Now if you are in the mood for an old fashioned, juicy ,artery-clogging hamburger with fries to match, The Shipwreck in Havensight will do you in. Also has some pool tables if you are in the mood.

You have to try Skinny Legs, Coral Bay St. John. What a great place for yummy, inexpensive food. Again, Pickles is good for deli sandwiches, and you can pick up some necessities there. Vi's snack shack too way on the east end.

On st john try:

shipwreck landing in coral bay - fabulous frozen drinks...good cheap food.

In Cruz Bay:

Chilly Billys for breakfast...none better.

Bit more pricey (i.e., not cheap, but not out landish) try Lime Inn for good food or Morgan's Mango for good carribean atmosphere and more good frozen drinks, food's okay, but not not as good as Lime Inn.

Try Dottie's Front Porch (near Raffles) on St. Thomas. All dinners are $10.00 and the food is local and good.

I would recommend Arthur's Cafe on the East End (Cowpet Bay/Anchorage Condos). They have the best ribs and the owners are the nicest people!

We have been to ST. Thomas once, year before last, it is not cheap but I will go back to Aragave Terrace. It was wonderful. Splurge one night. Dress was not dressy, just not shorts. We are hoping to return next summer.
