My husband and I are going to St. Thomas next month and I have a lot of ideas for daily activities. However, most of them are things I like. I am trying to find a few things he would really like. But being a shy, quiet, very passive engineer there are very limited things that will raise an eyebrow. He does like to golf, as do I and I was wondering if Mahogany Run Golf Coarse on St. Thomas was worth taking time out for? We golf a lot at home, when we do not have 3 feet of snow (like right now) and if this coarse is one of those breath taking experiences like on those posters and calendars then I will mention it to him. If it is not really worth the time or money I will keep the idea to myself and not mention it at all.

Also, if there are any other manly things to do on either island (STT or STJ) I would love some ideas. Like if there is a glass shop where you can watch someone blow glass or build some stuff he would think that was cool.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I don't golf but a guy I work with plays all the time at Mahogany & loves it as does a friend's husband. And lunch is great at the Mahogany Grill.

Does he like birds? The bird show at Paradise Point is terrific.

Thank you for the information. I really do appreciated it. I think we might give it a try. I don't believe I want to bring my clubs though so I hope they have decent clubs to rent. I think I am ready to deposit my golf balls in the ocean of the coast of St. Thomas. ha ha...

Mahogany Run, http://www.mahoganyrungolf.com/, is fantastic to play! Very challenging...narrow fairways, deep ruff,, etc. They rent Titleist DCI's and Callaways. And their signature, The Devil's Triangle (holes 13, 14 and 15), is NOT to be missed! If you can play these three holes with no penalty strokes you get a free poster, and a certificate of achievement! Bewrae...Tiger didn't make it his first time! (His ball went in the water on #14) Lots of celebs have played the course, too...even Clinton...but don't worry, it's all cleaned up now. (Har-har!) It's kind of expensive to play there, but WELL owrth it, IMO.

You might wanna treat him to as halfday trip to go out on the underwater motorscooters (www.bossusvi.com), it's a real hoot! Paradise Point is a must (and the birds are awesome!), check out the Pirate's Chest up there for great souvenirs (voted number one in the VI two years in a row). Deep sea fishing is always a good time, too. (dunno if he'd like it or not, but I know I do!). Check with DoubleHeader for an awesome halfday trip (www.doubleheadersportfishing.com). Helicopter tours are cool, full and halfday sailing trips are cool, STJ is a must, a trip to the Baths is highly recomended (www.newhorizonscharters.com)...there's so much to do here, you two will NOT be bored!

Thanks to everyone,

I appreciate the input. I have mentioned it to my husband and I think we might just have to play, at least once. So, Marty I would love to win one of those posters. You mention no penalty strokes but do I have to get par? I'm sure it would be a lot easier to avoid the penalty if I can use my 7 iron the whole time. Ha ha ha Though I don't know If I could come in under the 10 stroke limit. I also am going to look up some of the other activities - the scooters sound fun!

And Bosie, I did look up that glass blowing and I think we might have to stop there on one of our day excursions.

Thanks Again,

Actually, they have no way of knowing what you got, so they will give it out to anyne that tells them that they made it with no penalties..they don't even check your score card these days! Haha! Take plenty of balls, though,,,it's a difficult course...at least for ME it is! Haha! I've been playing th course for 9 years, and I brought a dozen balls with me the first time...and I lost them all...but, since I live on island, I have plenty of time to go look for mine in the woods...most visitors, especially cruise ship passengers, don't...so I cam home with 72 OTHER balls that first day! I haven't bought a ball in nine years!!

And, yes, the scooters are AWESOME! You'll have a great trip with those...

Yes, Mahogany Run is no joke! It is a callenging as it is beautiful. I know a few serious golf fanatics - guys who travel around internationally, just to golf - and they really LOVE this one.i am not a golfer, so I don't get it. But, I know that I have sometimes wished that Mahogany Run didn't exist. It is like "the other woman". 🙂

Hey Marty,

I have looked up the web site for the BOSS scooters and this looks great!!! It makes me a little nervous that they have nothing posted any where (that I can find anyway) that would suggest how much this would cost for 2 people. The fact that you are chartered out on a yacht and then get to ride the scooters makes me think this might be a little out of our price range? I have sent in an e-mail request to Aqua Adventures and I hope to get a little more information on these. Thanks again for the idea.

It's about $100 p/p for the half day trip...maybe $110. My ex-wife will be the one to answer your e-mail, set up a trip for you and meet you in Havensight at the Cruise Ship dock (WICO). If you get no reply by tonight, e-mail Tiffany Vickers at [email protected]. It's a real hoot! Worth twice the money! And make sure you get an underwater camera for that trip....you WILL want photos!
