My fiance and I will be in St Thomas, St John and Virgin Gorda from July 4th - July 14th. My fiance has a severe gluten allergy and we are worried about finding GF food options, both dining in at our villa and eating out throughout our stay.

I know Gourmet Goods in St Thomas carries GF food items (and they are trying to order GF beer for our trip), but does anyone have experience with dining out on these islands and know if any are gluten-free friendly? Any suggestions for grocery stores and restaurants for gluten free food would be most appreciated.

Of course, anyone with knowledge of any stores that sell GF beer, that would be awesome! We are visiting for our honeymoon and don't want to have to worry about him being sick the entire time!

Thanks,
mgonterman

Almost all the grocery stores have gluten-free options. Even KMart sells potato bread (I assume it's gluten-free!).

Most of the restaurants on St Thomas offer gluten-free options as well. You should be OK in the USVI - can't say anything about BVI.

I am also suffer from celiac. We stay in st John and I always have a wonderful trip. All of the restaurants that we visit (Morgan's mango, zozos, lime inn, waterfront bistro, high tide) have been very accommodating. Starfish market carries quite a bit of gf staples (udi's muffins, bread) and I think they have started carrying a gf beer (bards I think). I drink redbridge gf beer or new grist and these are not avail.
This is what I do...it may sound extremes but I'm a beer drinker so to me this suggestion works for me:
Buy (WHILE AT HOME) as much beer as you think u will drink
Take it to a local UPS store and have them individually bubble wrap each bottle beer ( I pack 2 cases)
Put in boxes that will fit into a very lg suitcase and then fill with packing peanuts in any open areas. Also place bubble wrap in any zipper compartments.
They generally charge me $20 to do this.
Then check the suitcase as a checked bag. Make sure when packing at UPS store that they monitor weight. Try not to go over 48 lbs.

So the cost of this process is:
3 cases of beer $66
UPS charge $20
Check bag $25
Total $109
*this is still cheaper than 15 painkillers
I have never lost a beer and that includes 1 STT trip, 4 STJ trips, 1 Dominican rep trip

Another tip is to pack your clothes in a duffle then repack your clothes in the lg suitcase and put duffle inside the suitcase.

Good luck and happy traveling. Will you please PM me if you find out someone will order the be for your fiancé. I would love to do the same. It would def save me some time.

Wendy

You can also try the Health Food store down from Pueblo and The Internal Revenue Office on way to Havensight.
Don't know what Virgin Gorda has to offer but if you shop here to take there, you shall pay import duty on whatever food goods you bring into BVI. Might be worth it as prices are higher in BVI than in VI and less options available to my knowledge.
