Hi,

Some friends are visiting later this week. They seem convinced that they have seen a site that offered a glass bottom boat trip (not the submarine). Of course, now they want to go on it, but can't remember the name. Does anyone know about this? I don't recall seeing one advertised.

Thanks.

The boat is the Kon Tiki - don't know the website but will ask them - they dock outside my office window!

Thanks, Pamela.

I actually remebered the Kon Tiki just after I posted my question. I always think of it as a "booze cruise" boat. Is that its only itinerary? That wouldn't work for this particular group.

Thanks again.

Yes, the legendary 100 proof rum in kool aid tour - fun if you are up for it. I've got about 125 member yachts of all sizes and descriptions - nothing glass bottom but maybe I can point you in the right direction. If the point is they don't want to snorkel we do have boats that have these great float mats with glass in the head rests so you can float and see underneath the water. Post your needs here or email me at [email protected] - whichever is easiest.

Hello stt - yeap Kon Tiki is certainly a booze cruise. If you have a large group you can "rent' the whole boat - had someone do that for a wedding reception several years ago. Other then that boat you will need to find another alternative; snorkeling, Coral World, sailing...

You know, I would think exactly what you said--that a glass bottom boat would be attractive to people who don't want to snorkle. The wierd thing is that these folks are actually avid snorklers, so I am not sure what was so attractive about it for them.

Maybe I just attract an odd set of friends.

Oh well, thanks to all.

stt: I think I saw one at the Renaissance, when it was still the Renaissance. Maybe call the new Palace?? Or you could try calling some of the boating companies like Caribbean Parasail, the watersports folks at Sapphire, etc. Someone is bound to know!!

I won't consider the Kon Tiki much of a glass bottom boat. It's really a booze cruise. When they arrive at Water Island, they go over by a reef and stay there for a while. Now comes the surprise. They take the covers off the glass bottom area to have a looksee, but, they have to lower them into the water! Yes, they are boxes with glass bottoms! The are about 8 X 8 and they crank them down til they sit on the water and you look through that. Not exactly the feel of a glass bottom boat. Bubbles get trapped on the glass and makes for a weird effect. They stay there for about 15 minutes, feed some fish, and that's the extent of their glass bottom boating! I didn't find it exciting at all.
Years ago we had a real one in the harbor that was fantastic, this was a let down. Maybe a good idea for an entrepenuer?
