I am leaving for St. Thomas in 6 days now. I still have a couple more questions though. My husband and I have started collecting water globes from the various locations that we travel to. Does anyone know of a good gift shop in St. Thomas to where I might find a water globe? I looking for something better than the cheap plastic type, but size does not matter.
Also, I have hear people discuss the noseeums and other biting bugs. Does anyone know how the bugs are right now? Should I come armed and ready?
The bugs are not too bad right now. It is pretty hot these days. Rainy weather often brings bugs out of their hiding places - and this is not the case right now. If you plan on spending late afternoons at the beach the sand no see ums might bug you - but you could pick up bug repellent here if you needed it. If you go to the FAQ's section on this site - it is under the General Info - well in the FAQ's section at the bottom of the page is a packing check list - that might help you a little with your packing.
The link is if you can't find it the long way 🙂 just cut and paste this link into the address spot on your browser. Have a great trip and come back and let us know how your trip was and how you liked the islands.!!!!

I'm glad to hear that the bugs aren't too bad right now. I'll probably pack some repellent just in case. Hot and/ or rainy weather doesn't bother me one bit. I have only lived in the southern states (California, Texas, and Florida) and am quiet used to warm weather. I am looking forward to beautiful beaches unlike the muddy Texas waters.
I read the packing advice that you suggested. It says that you should not wear beach attire out in town. By that, do you mean no swimsuits? Or are tanks tops and such also unacceptable in town and at restaurants
It is sort of unappreciated by local persons and by persons working in Charlotte Amalie and in the shopping areas when visitors walk around our streets wearing only a bikini or swim trunks with no shirt for men. That sort of dress is for the beach or pool side. And we kind of see if as an insult. However you can wear a beach wrap on top the swim suit. Or a tank top and shorts - certainly - yes - by all means. Just don't stroll into the shops wearing just your bikini and flip flops, which some people do - I quess to get a tan while shopping. You can wear tank tops at the restaurants yes.
Actually there is a law on the books about being covered in the town areas. Doubt anyone has been arrested for it, but the poilice officers can be a little gruff in telling you. They somehow always act that way. Hope one day they will understand the meaning of the word courteous!
