I have been planning to start a Ghost and Legends Tour on St. Thomas in Charlotte Amalie. If anyone has some stories to pass along or locations/sites that would be of interest, please let me know. Additionally, I am looking for some feedback on whether or not you would be interested in such a tour whether you are a local or visiting the island including by cruise ship.
The basics would be to cover the pirate legends, ghostly encounters or haunts and jumbie stories via a walking tour (about 3hrs) close to the cruise ship docks. Additionally, there would be a night and day tour that would have some differences to them. I have also planned a sort of treasure hunt as part of the tour f or everyone to take part in. Guides will be costumed and one lucky guest (unlucky soul) will be selected to assist in some way during the tour.
So if this sounds good or bad, ideas or questions let me know as I am in the early stages of putting this together and would like to here some comments/feedback/suggestions.
Thanks for your interest.
Ken
You might want to do some demographic research on how many cruise ship passengers would do a -- !! 3 hour walking tour -- and maybe a visual informal survey on their average physical condition.
Not much in the way of sightseeing " close to the cruise ship docks " either.
A night tour in downtown Charlotte Amalie ?-- that might be a hard sell.
Hey you never know until you put the energy out there -- as a local I wouldn't likely be interested myself - you asked for feedback.
Walking tours are offered in most ports (someone here used to offer one to the cruise ship passengers, and may still be doing it), and the Blackbeard's Castle tour is considered a walking tour, so there are quite a few cruisers who are interested in such tours.
I would try to offer it somewhere other than town, only because there are so many (well, maybe 2) similar tours there. Gregorie (sp?) Channel used to be a popular pirate hang out (or so I've heard), so if you could somehow figure out a way to have somethings for them to look at other than the sea, Crown Bay might be a better area. People are always looking for something to do near the ship.

Believe it or not I have been on a number of such 3 hour walking tours in the states. Nighttime adds to the ambiance, but since the cruise ships leave early this clientele would be best for daytime. There are already tours offered to the cruise ships that are walking. Went on one 2 years ago that took you up to the Blackbeard's castle, down the 99 steps with various stops along the way ending at Main Street. There was over 30 people in that group. Of course, this was more of a historical tour.

Good points. Ideally I would like to stay near the cruise docks as it makes it easier for the guests. Gregory Channel and Crown Bay would be worth checking into, so thanks for the tip. If you happen to find out those other tours (websites and/or contact info) let me know as I haven't found anything like what I plan to offer.
Thanks,
Ken
No, those tours probably aren't like the ones you are planning to offer - they're historical walking tours, but cover a broader scope than ghosts and legends. The two I know of don't have websites - they are/were marketed to a handful of ships as one of the excursions.
