Hello
Do you do any cruise ship companies offer a direct route from the mainland to St. Thomas? Is it possible to pay for a partial cruise to get to St. Thomas ie. (Cruise Itinerary Miami, St. Thomas, St. Croix, back to Miami). Could one pay just to hitch a ride to St. Thomas and not for the rest of the cruise?
Please let me know if you have any tips on getting to St. Thomas by boat!
Thanks,
Paul

Check out St Barts Yacht Delivery. I was crew on a sailboat from mertle beach to tortola years ago thats how i ended up here. Lots of work , and a great experince and a free ride. Look for them in the small classified ads in the back of sail magazine
Any cruise ship should let you get off in St. Thomas. Many people that don't like to fly do it! You do have to pay for the whole cruise though.

A couple years ago we did a ferry from Falhardo, Puerto Rico to St. Thomas. The schedule was whenever they wanted to go.
Is the ferry still there. We are going to end a Windjammer in St. Thomas and will need to get back to PR. Last time we did this Air St. Thomas worked, but it was iffy for a while. Any comments

I Love Cape Air. Almost hourly flights to Puerto Rico. About a hundred bucks. www.flycapeair.com
Don,
Yes the ferry is still operating - what was your experience like - people ask about it... was it rough, sea sick type ride... what is your take on it.
More info. about it is at https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/
Short commuter flights are great... Seaplane, Cape Air, Air St. Thomas....

Our Innkeeper at the Anchor Inn called someone who told him the ferry was going to leave at 7 am. We got up early and rushed down there. Nobody showed up to run the ferry for a couple hours. However, it was a picturesque morning. There was a good coffee shop at the end of the pier, talked to some people. Great morning.
The ferry guys finally arrived and still seemed tentative to depart since myself, my wife and daughter would be the only passengers, but we talked them into it. then, I believe, called some of their girlfriends and we waited for them to come before we departed. We were charged a couple dollars more than we should have been, but we got over that and really enjoyed a nice early crossing to St. Thomas.
As I remember it all was smooth and comfortable. My wife who does get seasick occasionally, di not feel a bit queasy on this trip. Nothing like the awful ferry that goes between Cozmel and Cancun. It was more like the one from St. Thomas to Tortula except a bigger boat going further.
All it all, it was like many of our Caribbean experiences off the beaten tourist track, not exactly what we planned, but a lot of fun.

Don -- Sounds like fun, albeit iffy. I can get us r/t from DC to San Juan for $200 each, and am looking for a reasonable ferry from there to the VI for a family of four. Could you pls identify which ferry you're discribing and whether you are aware of any others.
Thanks, Joe McBride
The ferry I am talking about can be located by going to the site listed by Islander about two responses up. My connections came thru Puerto Rico Tourism or something. It was about three years ago and the ferry might be more reliable now.
The trouble you might find is getting to from San Juan to Falhardo to catch the ferry. We took what they call a Publico, a van like bus, it only cost a couple bucks each, and was crowded. We met people that we still remember on that trip. We spent the night at the Anchor Inn in Falhardo. In the late afternoon we walked down to a yacht club, my daughter counting Iguanas. In the evening we sat out and listened to coki's.
I don't recommend this to any one who does not like some adventure in their travel. You have to catch a cab from downtown San Juan to get to a Publico station.
If you can get to SJ for $200, you can end up getting to STT for under $300 and getting a lot of experience on the way.
Good luck.

Transportation Services operate a ferry between Cruz Bay, St. John; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and Fajardo, Puerto Rico. The trip takes two hours each way. Tickets are $60 one way and $100 round trip. The ferry leaves twice a month on Friday in the mid-afternoon. It returns on Sunday. Advance purchase is required. It is suggested you call (340)776-6282 for more details and specific dates and times.
