We are getting married on St. Thomas in August. We would really appreciate advice on locations for the wedding, reception and rehearsal dinner. For the wedding, we think we want to stay away from the beach because it will be hot. For the reception, we want something nice and elegant with good food. For the rehearsal dinner, we want a fun relaxed place that is not expensive. We're thinking we'll have about 50 guests. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello All,

I'm getting married in St. Thomas in Jan 2009. We are doing a wedding cruise, however, our ceremony will be on the Island, hopefully at the St. Thomas Congregation. Anybody have any info pertaining to getting married on the island, at the congregation and or having a reception on the cruise (Royal Caribbean), please let me know via email [email protected]

Thanks 🙂

I would definitely recommend a wedding planner who lives on the island - seems silly hiring someone that isn't even from there! I've heard great things about Island Bliss Weddings - sounds like you will have a wonderful wedding!

We are taking a cruise from Puerto Rico April 26th, the first stop is St. Thomas. We are getting off the ship and getting married at Maegan's Bay. We are taking Princess Cruise Lines and did not like the way they did the weddings. We looked all around and went with a company called www.weddingstheislandway.com They have been fantastic and we have not had any problems with them. We can speak to them whenever we have a concern and if we don't reach them, they will call us promptly. Any request we had they accommodated. We will be married April 27, and then going back to St. Thomas May 3 - May 10 for our honeymoon. I will definitely post how the wedding went and how well the company did.

Hi all you future St. Thomas brides!

There's a great site with forums for destination weddings that you can find here: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/ It's a wonderful place to find others who are planning to get married in the Virgin Islands or who have already done so. It's difficult to plan from a distance and the brides on that site really help each other out a lot. I must admit, however, that registering is quite cumbersome, but it's a fun site one you get in there.

For what it's worth, I've also recommended on that site that future Virgin Island brides check out these VINOW forums for information on what to do and other details about visiting the islands, as this is the best source around for all things pertaining to visiting the islands.

I grew up on St. Thomas and got married in Fairchild's Park by a judge.
My family and friends carpooled to the location as the parking was tight.

I also attended a wedding at Coral World after hours.
It was quite nice, without all of the additional people that will show up if you have it at a hotel.

$10k for fajitas seems a bit much... I agree to check around and compare prices before committing.

Have you looked into renting a villa?

I say the Wyndham but I think that Coral World would be cool. We never went to CW but I love Coki Point...it's beautiful Think of the wonderful pictures you could take on the beach....sounds beautiful.

Don't worry too much about the heat - you always have a breeze. 🙂

Congratulations

Jeniffer

I got married in St. Thomas last month. I had a fabulous wedding on Magen's Bay Beach. I used a local wedding planning company, Paradise Bridal Consultants. I would recommend them to any couple looking for good wedding consultants who really care and listen to what you'd like your wedding to be. Contact Angela who is the head consultant: [email protected]

I am thinking about getting married in April of next year, while our cruise ship is docked in St. Thomas for the day. Our actual wedding reception would take place back on the ship, but the ceremony would take place in St. Thomas. I would appreciate any advice/tips you may have to offer. The wedding package includes very little, and it seems like all the extras, such as guest transportation to and from the wedding, flowers (about $500 for two arrangements), etc are costing a fortune. I just want to make sure there isn't a way of doing things that is just as good, but for a lesser cost. I am expecting around 25-30 guests in total.

To KRB
I am the mother of a future bride. Just found out from the Rabbi Starr that he is retiring this Aug. and they are searching for a new Rabbi. If you are planning your ceremony at the synagogue you should check this out. Cost of using the Synagogue is $1000. Rabbi Starr was helpful somewhat, very nice but said that I needed to wait until they hired someone new (for next July 2009 wedding) and the new Rabbi is there. Hope this is helpful. You can call the Rabbi at the number on their website.

Hi. Could you please tell me about norbu events. I looked at the website and I'm not clear on how many people they can cater to.
We might have 60 + and want dinner and lots of room for dancing. Young crowd who want to party.
thank you.

We are getting married next may and I am renting ocean cliff villa for the week. We were planning on getting married in Magens bay and have our reception at the villa. We are having about 50 guest. We contacted the realtor and she said we could have the reception there but there would be an additional fee of $1000. The house is gorgeous and it has a lower deck were the ceremony could take place over the ocean but we decided that we want the feel of sand between our toes as we say our vows. We are planning on having our wedding and reception at Megans bay. We are going thru Paradise consultants and so far they have been wonderful. We are using a pavilion for the reception. Figured that that $1000 would be better spent in other things. To rent Magens bay is only $100 and there is no cleaning up afterwards.. :>).. Let me know if there is any other questions you might have. I have been planning my wedding since December and it is a lot of work to try to have a semi-affordable destination wedding.....

I may have misunderstood you, but you DO need to clean up the pavilion you rent...

East Ender,
I doubt they will be renting a pavillion, there is a $100 fee simply to have the wedding at Magen's! That is what Magen's charges! The pavillion would be more! BUT! You are right, there is clean up involved, even if you throw flower peddles! (believe me, they are not easy to pick up out of the sand! lol!

May2009wedding,
Enjoy! Great choice!

May, congratulations on renting Oceancliff. It's a nice villa and the views are absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset.

The lower deck was used shortly before our visit and I can imagine a beautiful ceremony on that lower deck. The only problem is it could get very hot. I think getting married at Magens is a great idea.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and if you need any information about Oceancliff, you can pm me.

The OP hasn't returned to this forum for over two years - but if you use the search engine here you'll probably find more recent posts related to weddings as it's a very popular subject. Also if you do a general google on "wedding planners st thomas vi" you'll find plenty of listings and websites you can look through. A wedding planner is the best way to go about all the details as it's very hard to do everything from off island. A planner/coordinator will work within your budget to take care of all the details and save you a lot of headaches. Good luck!
