We are getting married on St. Thomas in August. We would really appreciate advice on locations for the wedding, reception and rehearsal dinner. For the wedding, we think we want to stay away from the beach because it will be hot. For the reception, we want something nice and elegant with good food. For the rehearsal dinner, we want a fun relaxed place that is not expensive. We're thinking we'll have about 50 guests. Any suggestions? Thanks!

On a recent visit, we took a stroll out on the point at Sapphire Beach - and what a gorgeous setting that would be a sunset. It was apparent that there had been a recent ceremony there since there was some sort of arbor set up and leftover flowers strewn all over. Please check it out!
Secret Harbor would also be romantic and gorgeous - especially at sunset. Can't get much better than that!
We witnessed a beautiful wedding on the beach there a few weeks ago. The bride was gorgeous and the ceremony was very sweet. The only thing that ruined it was a VERY drunk female relative who seemed to be spoiling it for everyone. She showed up after the actual ceremony, however, which was a blessing in disguise - because it was embarrassing.
Good luck in your quest!
Why St Thomas and not St John?

You might want to check on sugar bay resort. We got married there five years ago and it was wonderful. The wedding planner Naoma, kept us informed on every detail by email. At that time our wedding was free with a week stay, also included flowers, wedding cake, and a minister from Asheville NC.Could not have asked for a better time. Our son was married at the Marriott at the Gazebo 3 years ago. It was great, however, we had 25 and I don't think it is big enough for 50!
You need to find a place and reserve hotel spaces immediately! Also, we rented a villa for our family which was great. In order to have your wedding at the villa you need to select one that is suited for it. The views from the villa we had were million dollar ones. We had a memorable wedding and have returned to STT 2 times since then. In fact, just returned from a 2 week vacation there and STX. Good luck!

We're getting married on St Thomas in April at the Blue Serenity Villa. We're having both the ceremony and reception there. We expect to have about 40-50 guests and most of our guests are staying at Secret Harbour. We're using Janelle Scott (www.islandblissweddings.com) as our wedding coordinator and Passion Fruit Chefs as our caterer. So far, planning has been really easy and everyone has been great to work with. We are anticipating a very intimate, casual, classy wedding. Let me know if you have any questions about planning, vendors, etc!

Have you looked into Herves restaurant? You don't have to pay a venue fee. The Marriot is nice but over priced. I am planning a wedding there right now, let me know if i can help in any way!

As a Wedding coordinator who plans destination weddings, I recommend a professional wedding coordinator stateside who can maneuver and has contact in ST. Thomas.
It is even worth taking them with you.
For 50 guests, this is a big deal there.

Plan to spend $15 - $20,000 for a nice wedding weekend.

Our US standard for a wedding is different than there so know what you want and what you are getting.

Resorts can change ownership overnight! I have had it happen 2 x, and you need someone to ensure your needs are fulfilled without you being stressed out!

E-mail me directly if you have questions.

Regarding Villas,

Make sure the villa allows 50 people at one time.
Many are privately owned and limit the number of guests who can visit.

I had checked into villas for one of my clients who only had 45 guests attending the wedding.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. What villa did you rent? I have one picked out but I think I have to pay extra to have the wedding. Did you have to pay anything aside from the nightly rate? Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. It's so hard planning a destination wedding

We are renting the Blue Serenity Villa: http://www.mclaughlinanderson.com/villawebpage.cfm?curunitid=355

Yes, we had to pay extra to have the wedding there, but it was exactly the location that we wanted! We looked at a number of other villas such as Ventana, Caribbean Countess, and Sea Star. We really liked the location of Blue Serenity since it's right next to Secret Harbour, where our guests will be staying. Also, we liked that it had air conditioning! 🙂

All of these villas charged an additional fee ($1000-$1500) to have an event there and many have a maximum number of guests that you can have.

Hope that helps!

Blue Havana? The restaurant next door is Blue Moon. The restaurant at Morningstar is Havana Blue.

Reception for 50? = Indigo - poolside reception.

Waterfall into pool, tiki torches, steel pan, great atmosphere, easy parking, etc..

Best of luck!
