We are getting married on St. Thomas in August. We would really appreciate advice on locations for the wedding, reception and rehearsal dinner. For the wedding, we think we want to stay away from the beach because it will be hot. For the reception, we want something nice and elegant with good food. For the rehearsal dinner, we want a fun relaxed place that is not expensive. We're thinking we'll have about 50 guests. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Why do you say the Marriott? We actually planned to get married there and have the reception there but it looks like it will be too expensive. Is the property really nice and worth the expense? For 50 people, the reception alone would be over $10,000 for fajitas or $15,000 for a nicer plated dinner (both include drinks). We might be willing to spend $10k on a reception but not for fajitas. Any other suggestions? Any reviews on Oceana or Villa Botanica? Thanks

I Have been to weddings at the Marriott on STT. , They do a fantastic job on Food, Service, and Facilities. This is my OP, You think you're going to have 50 guests, when the time comes maybe 40. Real world, a fajita wedding in paradise is OK in my book, unless you're a Kennedy or another Captain of Industry. Good Luck!

Thanks for the review. We think we'll have around 50 guests. We don't have a problem with fajitas...we're just not sure if it's worth spending over $10k for fajitas at the reception at the Marriott. We could get a nice steak or sea bass dinner elsewhere for $10k. If the Marriott is really that nice, maybe it's worth it. Looks like we have some thinking to do....

I got married on St. Thomas. Coral World is a GREAT place for both wedding and reception. I got married at Prettyclip Point at Sapphire Beach and had my reception at Coral World. They keep the park open for you and your guests which is really cool to walk around the aquarium at night. I HIGHLY recommend it. Price was very reasonable as well.

I'd suggest you consult a local wedding coordinator as they can make your day truly memorable and hassle-free according to what you're looking for and within your budget. There are many excellent coordinators on island and if you do a search on this forum you'll find a bunch of really good referrals from happy brides. Cheers!

Coral World is a GREAT place for both wedding and reception.

Off Island Girl,

I would love to hear some details about wedding receptions at Coral World. Can you send me a private message (PM) so that I can ask you some questions? You haven't allowed the ability to send you a private message on this forum.

Thanks,

Gerie

My fiance and I considered the Mariott but ultimately choose the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort - nice location, great room rates for our guests and their reception menu's and prices were more affordable and offered a wide range of options.

I got married in STT. Had my ceremony at Secret Harbor and reception at the Blue Moon Cafe. We had 30 people and the restaurant blocked an area off for us. It was a magical day for us. Food and atmosphere was awesome.

My daughter had an out-of-towners dinner at Coral World for 80 people - the park did simple catering and it was wonderful. They also contract out catering for fancier fare.

A few other options for your size is Oceana, old Stone Farmhouse, and Villa Botanica...

I just was married last month and we rented a villa for the week and had the wedding and reception (catered by Passionfruit Chefs) right there at the villa! It was perfect. Im happy to email with you off the forum if you have any questions.

Would suggest that you select a place to stay first then dtermine where you ar egoing to have the party. I agree for 50 people the Marriot would be my first choice. The second would be Sugar Bay.

I would love to hear more about the Wyndham. How was the resort? The reviews on tripadvisor were mixed. Was it way more affordable than the Marriot? I couldn't believe how much the Marriot was charging for some things ($25 per hurricane and candle for each table). Feel free to PM me. Thanks

Hubby and I honeymooned at Sugar Bay & also witnessed two weddings. They have an awesome roof top for weddings!! One wedding was on the beach and the other on the roof top. The roof top wedding was amazing - it was also in September, I don't think the heat bothered anyone. Sugar Bay also has wonderful facilities - they had something going on almost every night we were there. The governor of the Virgin Islands held their banquet there! So that speaks volumes! If its good enough for the governor...it has to be nice.

I believe the Wyndham has a wedding coordinator - I encourage you to call.

Congratulations!!!

Jen

I am getting married in November at the Wyndham. Just wondering if anyone had recommendations on where to hold the reception. I am having it on the Ocean Club Terrace but was wondering if it would be too windy. Also wondering how the photos, dj, and videographer was since they set up all of those things.

I personally think it is better to go thru a wedding company that is NOT with a hotel! You will get much better, personal service entirely catered to YOU! Weddings the Island Way is very reputable and was the first wedding company on the Island of STT. The owner planned her own wedding on a beach and saw a need. If there is anyway I can be of any help to you, feel free to PM me! 🙂

I would highly recommend Passion Fruit Chefs catering!! They will do all the work assisting you with choosing an awesome villa with a incredible view and prepare all the food which is absolutely the best on the island!!!!!. They take all the work and worry out of getting married and let you and your special guest enjoy your special day!

I attended a vow renewal service at Coral World, and it was just magical. The advantage to Coral World over some of the other venues is you'll probably have the place to yourself - no hotel/restaurant guests poking around!

It started before sunset, so you could see the beautiful views, and then ended late night. They had created a slideshow chronicalling (sp?) their relationship, and were able to show it just after dinner had been served. Sooo funny and intimate to see how their relationship had grown over the years. Nice dance floor, too.

It's also centrally located to eastend hotels.
