We will be coming for a one day stop on a cruise ship to St. Thomas. We are trying to figure out the best way to get from the ship to Trunk Bay on our own. We know there is a ferry. Where do we pick up the ferry and and how do we get from the ferry to Trunk Bay?

Hi Donna.

After disembarking the ship you take a taxi to Red Hook. You will also need to taxi from the ferry dock in St. John to Trunk Bay. To return you do the reverse -- have fun!

Donna:

Taxi to ferry...ferry to Cruz Bay (St. John)...taxi to Trunk Bay.

Return...reverse, but leave plenty of time so you don't miss your ship. (Taxis are always available at Trunk Bay.)

We've done it....but you should leave your ship early.

Depends......Coki & Megan are on ST. Thomas, Trunk Bay is on St. John...more time and cost to get there.

I would definitely catch a taxi to Red Hook at the Cruise Ship dock. The earlier the better!

Catch the Ferry to Cruz Bay and there will be a multitude of taxi going to Trunk Bay.

However instead of Trunk Bay you may want to consider going to Caneel Bay on the taxi and taking the short walk back to Honeymoon Beach.

Why would I suggest that you ask….

Well consider the following 3 pictures. Each were taken with 3 Cruise Ships docked in St Thomas:

Megans Bay STT:

Trunk Bay STJ:

Honeymoon Beach STJ:

You also have the option from Honeymoon Beach to take a hiking trail back over the hill into Cruz Bay. It is about a 1 ½ mile walk, but an easy hike. There is great snorkeling on both ends of Honeymoon Beach. The down side there are no restaurants, bath facilities etc… Just a beautiful beach with lots of shade or sun – your choice.

If you are dying to go to Trunk you can walk back to Caneel and catch a taxi over to Trunk. Recommend doing it around 11:30. That way you will hit the beach between excursion times.

On the way back to STT from STJ, depending on time, you may want to catch the ferry directly back to CA to the ship. Or you can retrace back to Red Hook and then a taxi back to the Ship.
