Does anyone know if you can pack spray cans in your checked luggage?
How about taking prescription drugs with you in carry ons? Do you have to bring them in the labeled bottles or can I just put the different ones in a single bottle?

Thanks

Hello Padlin,

The TSA web site lists items you can and can not carry in checked luggage and also in carry ons. Here is the link to that page:

http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/Prohibited_English_4-1-2005_v2.pdf

Not everyone can open PDF so just on the two things you mentioned I noted:

Medicine should be in properly labeled bottles, however they mostly talk about insulin and sprays. Hopefully you can open the pdf page and look over it.

Wasn't sure if your spray was personal care but here is what is written: Personal care items containing hazardous materials (e.g., flammable perfume, aerosols) totaling no more than 70 ounces may be carried on board. Contents of each container may not exceed 16 fluid ounces. And there is further information about pressurized bottles at http://asi.faa.gov/these.asp.

Personal experience - I have carried hair spray but not the aerosol kind in my luggage. And carried properly labeled medicine in carry ons - they were removed and looked at one by one by the tsa agents on more then one occasion. I remember once a lady in front of me in the line had her checked luggage opened because she had several cans of Pam cooking spray - they were not allowed.

Can't answer specifically for USVI, but when we went to the Bahamas I took a can of aerosol hairspray. No problem getting it into the Bahamas. However, at the airport returning home, the Bahamas personell searching through my carry-on had a problem with it. I told her if it was such a problem just take it I could always get another at the Dollar Store when I returned. I wasn't going to miss my flight because of it. She took the can and I boarded the plane. Since then I only take the pump hairspray bottles and haven't had a problem.

I always carry medicines in their proper container RX or OTC. No use in causing problems with over zealous airline personell looking for illegal drugs.
