I will be staying atGallows Point for 2 weeks in June in a harbour view suite. Can anyone comment on this location (12D) as views, noise, etc.

Also, we are looking for a few day charters that leave out of Cruz Bay. I am condering Island Spirit, a large catamaran that I think is owned by Cruz Bay watersports. Any comments or other suggestions?

We are going the last week of March, and we are staying in unit 11 at Gallows. Haven't been there before, but I'll be sure to do a trip report when we get back. Stay tuned.

Hello Deb,

Pia, a board user, just posted in another thread the following:

"We had 20 people stay at Gallows last year and they LOVED it. It is a great property, beautifully landscaped, good snorkeling off their dock, sunsets over STT, a fabulous restaurant (ZoZo's) and within walking distance from "town"."

Yep, but I figure if I'm going to do a vacation to what I understand is such a wonderful place, I'm not going to be a penny-pincher. We've never been anywhere in the Caribbean before, so we're pretty excited. Girlfriend and I are in unit 11 in one of the bottom units (at least that's what they told us). Have you been to STJ before, and what are your plans while there? Hope to see you there!

Jay, we've only been to SJ 2 times - once while on a cruise, and once while on STT for a week. After 2 cruises and seeing a LOT of islands, SJ is the most magnificent- it IS PARADISE!

Gallows Point will DEFINITELY be worth it. It seems to be the best place for us. Better than a villa -in our opinion because you get daily maid service. Also, I really don't want to be isolated while on vacation... I actually like being with and seeing some other vacationers. Gallows has much better rooms & ammenities than at Caneel (tvs, phone, dvd & cd players, cooler & beach chairs to take with you for the day). Gallows is better than the Westin (for us)... you get much more of a view at Gallows (not to mention size of the room & ammenities) than you could at the Westin and the convenience of being able to easily walk to town rather than having to either stay on the their huge compound for dining or schlepping in the car for every meal!

While there we plan on exploring the entire island & going to a lot of different beaches & snorkeling, doing some kayaking, hiking. We are also going to Virgin Gorda for the day (we'd been there for the day when we were on STT for the week). The Baths at VG are a must see, as it is one of the most unbelievably beautiful places we'd ever seen!!!

Jay, are you and your girlfriend renting a car for the week? We are, but it probably isn't necessary for the enire week since we are so close to town.

Jay, you and your girlfriend will have a spectacular, magical vacation!! Wait until you see the color of that blue green sea against the lush green tropical paradise that is St. John...it is to die for!!!!

Talk to you soon!

Lisa

JAY-

We stayed in 11D our first year on the island (now our 6th year) The view of the harbour was wonderful and hearing the lapping of the waves lulled you to sleep. The next year we stayed with an ocean view and missed the sound of the water. Have a great time and congratulations. We are going the 1oth of March to celebrate our 25th anniversary!

My wife and I have been to St John 7 times. We were originally planning on going to Peter Bay for our honeymoon (the Gatehouse) but huricane Marilyn cisited 3 days prior to our arrrival and changed our plans. We decided to try again for our 3rd anniversary and stayed at Maho Bay. We loved the island and agreed to come back each year for our anniversary. Each time we have visited the island since the initial visit we have stayed at Gallow's. The place is great, no need to worry. One year we have a problem with our, I can't even remember what it was but the management gave us a gift certificate for dinner to be used at any resaurant on the island. The staff is wonder and he units are great. Each time we have stayed in the Harbor view lofts and love them. The decor changes from unit to units since many of them are individually owned. I'm sure we stayed in 12 D before. you will not be dissapointed with Gallows. We always rent a car for the week but love the fact that you can walk into town at night for dinner. the people on the island are the nicest you could ever meet. It seems like everyone there is an east coaster who relocated to St John. I tried to convince my wife to do the same but only got her to dsettle on returning on a yearly basis. Make sure you use the shop at Gallows, they will call and make any reservations you want while you are there. Make sure you eat at Asolare and the Lime Inn while you are visiting.

Enjoy

Mark,

Thanks for your post. We are staying in 12D in June, and it is one of the privately owned suites. It looks very pretty on the web. DId the noise of the harbour bother you at all? I'm going this time with my daughter who will be almost 13, but I will have guests as my best friend and my sister-in-law will be joining me.
It is so neat to be able to share SJ with two of my best buds who have no idea what all the whoopla is about. I think they think they are going to Cancun or Florida. I can't decide what to show them first. I know "down time" is a big part of the charm. I'm more excited for them than they know to be. (If that makes sense.)
