When I land at STT, which is the best ferry to take - Charlotte or Red Hook? How do I get to each one - cab? Any of them in walking distance from the airport? Thanks!!
I think it would be best for you to cab to either, but Charlotte Amalie's St. John ferries are closer. You could walk, but it's about a mile or so... I might be a bit off, but it's quite a walk.
The ferry schedules are in links at the top of this web site. Just go to St. Thomas/Transportation
Either one is good. Charlotte Amalie is closer to the airport, but the ferry ride is 35-45 minutes over to STJ. The Red Hook ferry is about a 20 minute cab ride, and the ferry is about 15-20 minutes over to STJ. I don't know which one is cheaper, but I think they are pretty close in price. I personally like taking the Red Hook ferry. It leaves every hour on the hour, and Charlotte Amalie is less often. Yes, you have to take a cab to both of them. Hope this helps.
Also, they have started charging $2 for every bag that is to big to fit on your lap on the ferry because the crew has to handle it. Although, you have to carry on and off the ferry yourself. Just something to remember. I just like to take a larger carry on that will fit in my lap when I go down.
Hello,
The time of your arrival might affect which ferry you can take as the Charlotte Amalie ferry has its last trip at 5:30pm, while the Red Hook ferry runs until midnight.
Either one is fine.
Charlotte Amalie - shorter taxi ride (about 8 minutes), longer ferry ride (45 minutes), $7 ferry + $5 taxi
Red Hook - longer taxi (35 minutes), shorter ferry (15 minutes), $3 ferry + $9 taxi
Taxi rates are for shared taxis but per person, rates don't include luggage which is an additional couple dollars per bag after the 1st one. Ferry is per person also, not including extra charge for luggage. If you requested a private taxi the rates would be higher.
You'd want to take a taxi to either.
