Has anyone had any experience with these timeshares - good or bad? I know that they are not open yet, but I was wondering if I could get some feedback. Friends are thinking about buying one.

Thanks,
Cathy

Hi Cathy,

My brother has a couple of mainland timeshares that he is very happy with. He has never visited, and probably never will visit, what he's bought. Instead, he uses their point value to trade out to places he DOES want to go to. We stayed at Frenchman's Reef - Sea Cliff via his timeshare points.

Sounds like you can be very creative with the point system, which increases the flexibility you have for playing with vacations, airfares, etc. We viewed a timeshare presentation while we were on STT and were very tempted. There were just others things to do with that money that made more sense for the present. I posted what I could remember of the offer we got down below my trip report https://www.vinow.com/wwwtalk/read.php?4,59232.

If anyone is interested in buying timeshares, vist the Timeshare User's Group FIRST!!!! (TUG2.NET) The bulletin boards are free for browsing and there's a dedicated Marriott Board (Frenchman's Cove). There's tons of info on buying, selling, renting, exchanging. If you have a timeshare question, see them first.

We own two weeks at the Westin St John and would never consider a Marriott timeshare, but then we have different needs than others. There are many different options: weeks, points, fractionals, RESALES and it never hurts to get educated on your options first.

Cathy,

I agree with Lori about checking out the TUG bulletin boards. It's such a valuable resource.

Is your friend interested in that timeshare in particular? Is s/he just interested in a timeshare on St. Thomas? Is it an interest in a Marriott property? I ask because there are a few timeshares on St. Thomas (two on St. John also) that would cost a lot less than the Frenchman's Cove timeshare, which has very very high prices bought new from the developer.
