Hi,
I am planning a honeymoon for next august and st. croix sounds like a perfect island for us. I have looked at several places, and since we are on a budget , cottages by the sea seems like a good possibility. I was hoping to get some feedback on this hotel as well as the town of frederiksted vs. christiansted. We are not big city people, if that helps. I apprecciate anyones opinions. Thank you.
Hi Shelly...
St Croix is a beautiful island, perfect for a honeymoon celebration. The people and lifestyle is very laidback, and privacy is easy to find. There are too many activities to list here, but you won't get bored if you don't want to be.
The prices and crowds are a lot less on this island, as the tourist "turnstyle" is over on St Thomas. There is an "international flavor" to the island, with many nationalities represented, so you get exposed to the taste of many different cultures. All share in peace, and you the visitor will be welcomed.
The town and fort of Frederiksted is a historical landmark, and well worth the visit. Learning about the islands history is both interesting and benifitual, as you will be showing some respect for the natives by learning something about them. As a small town type of person, you should feel right at home with the "island time" rule..(it gets done when it gets done)...and relax with well mannered people that love the island as much as you will.
Enjoy your honeymoon, "try" (...it is a honeymoon guys...)to get out some, remember to always say "good morning" or "good day", and see how long it takes you to get the smile off your face when you return. Be sure to post your experience here when you get the chance, so others can share in your trip.
Congratulations,
Andrew
Shelly,
St. Croix is great and has lots to do, sight see, beach hop, buck island, sunset sail, hiking, horseback.... you'll have a good time. Definately plan the things you want to do and see. Rent a car. Frederiksted compared to Christiansted.... from my last visit which was a couple months ago - Christiansted is busier, more to do, more shops, more restaurants, more well kept and more attractive... in my opinion. Frederiksted needs a little TLC but it indeed has some attractions worth visiting like the Fort and the beaches and a drive along the coast north-west area...
(never stayed there, but I went walking around to check it out) Cottages by the Sea is sort of rustic, its small wooden and cement cottages on the beach. Sort of an off the beaten path type place rather then hotel or resort feel. Not fancy.
