What is the current status of this for near cruise ship port in Charlotte Amalie? I can't find any current information on the progress of the renovations. Is it closed now?

Closed. No money to finish the project. It far above the orginal estimates. But that is how things go in the islands.

Not much different than Washington.

Hi Susan. It is unfortunately still closed as others have mentioned; you can view the exterior. If you are interested in visiting Charlotte Amalie area because its close to the cruise ship port and for its historical buildings you can still do this, there are a number of additional buildings of historical importance and interest; Legislature Building, Lutheran Church, 99 Steps (and other step streets in the area), the various alleys downtown, Government House are examples. The St. Thomas Historic Trust has a small museum/office downtown, they are open Tues-Thurs 10-3 right now. They sell a small walking tour booklet of Charlotte Amalie. With that booklet you can do a self-tour and read the historic information as you go along.

If you want to get an idea of the historic sites you will see, check out this video: Charlotte Amalie Walking Tour.
